Was excited that these arrived today and was expecting to love them from everything I've read.
Unfortunately, I'm disappointed. I've only had 30 minutes or so with them, so hopefully things will improve, but I honestly think my Bose QC15's sound better after doing some side by side comparisons. I certainly didn't think I'd say that, and the QC15's were a gift more for noise cancelling than sound quality.
I'll admit, I'm a noob, but am I doing something wrong?

StandUpJust a matter of taste...very flat response with these cans...great for mastering. I dig them a lot but I love studio monitors for their flat response. These cans do not color sound as much as some other headphones. The highs are extended for monitoring and that's it. As a side note the bass is very well defined and goes deep, not overpowering at all. Kanye West and Dubstep fans should be happy.

StandUpI would recommend that you burn them in for at least a few days (if not several) and then spend a few days listening exclusively to the K553s to orient your ears to their signature. Then go back to comparison testing to see if your opinion has changed (or not).
Many people say you can speed the burn-in process by playing pink noise on the headphones for several hours, but it is better to not play it continuously for really long stretches of time so you don't over-work the drivers. There's a thread on this at Head-Fi at:
http://www.head-fi.org/t/215556/pink-noise-works-wonders-for-burning-in
I am planning on using the track found at: http://www.jlabaudio.com/burn.php to burn mine in when they arrive. I'll set up my computer to play the track for 2-4 hours a night for several nights and track the results.
Definitely play with the fit and placement of the earphones on your head as well. Several people have reported that they like the sound better when the earphones are pushed forward so that the back of your ear is touching or nearly touching the back of the cup, though others have differed.

xdemigodI'm assuming you've tried moving the cups around to different positions on your ears and made sure they are sealed tightly around your head? Mine have zero base if they are pushed back on my head. I have the back of the inside of the cups resting against the back of my ears.
My only problem so far is that they aren't comfortable. Like at all. The headband at the top is super thin and my ears start to hurt after like a half hour. Going to continue experimenting with different positions. They sound great, but these are my first pair of nice headphones, so I have nothing useful to compare to.

NafonGetting a good seal with these really does make a difference. Depending on your head & ear size and shape it can be tricky. I tried various positions but they were still lacking in bass until I took my glasses off. The sound immediately improved. Now when I have the glasses on I let the handles rest above the earpads so they don't break the seal. It feels a little odd but not uncomfortable.

xdemigodI have an extra large head...I have to use an extra large hockey helmet when I play beer league hockey. I just tried the headphone while pulling it slightly off my head breaking the seal and the bass drops off... WOW what a difference! Like everyone else said you may not be getting the correct seal you need around your ears. I would have never even noticed it but it seems the correct seal is everything with this headphone. Just try different positions and see what happens.

xdemigodWhat headphones are you coming from? Maybe you aren't getting a good seal, or maybe they just don't fit your head very well. You could just be a basshead and not suited to more balanced, neutral cans.
