aditxmanIs there a reason you can't just get more base magnets and swap your current modmic between the headphones?
This at 40 vs the 5 at 70? Unless you need the modular cables, I'd say this is a better deal.
aditxmanAs stated by Zilfallion, this is a nice price (I got an open box one for $45 so $40 is about the best price you'll ever see) but if you absolutely need (or want) the modularity of the 5, get it. Otherwise this is the premium 4 (they had a non-in-line mute version for $45, dunno how available it still is) and it works great for my PS4 controller. It's uni-directional, it doesn't quite filter out EVERY background noise, but it definitely is better than an omni-directional mic for a console.
With all the possibilities of other mics for a PC/Mac, I wouldn't recommend this for PC/Mac, but there aren't many more useful/attachable uni-directional mics that plug in to a PS4/Xbox One S+ generation (I think newer regular One controllers work now, but pre- S release Ones need an adapter?) controller and have magnetic attachments to your headset/headphones.
I attached one to the plastic above the cups of a TH-X00 and while it looks a bit weird, it works great and it's bent where my breathing won't be picked up. It's pretty slick, and I'd recommend it over the Massdrop replica since the Velcro AND adhesive seems to be too weak for the mic weight. So, anyone on the fence, this is a great mic, some people complain about attaching it to the grill of a headphone, but that's only natural since there's less area the adhesive can use for support that it might fail. Find a full surface and this thing won't pop off unless it gets a strong, direct force like falling against the floor or something (you don't treat your headphones like that, I hope!). Otherwise some stronger, putty-like adhesive may work better (just make sure it doesn't fall against your headphones driver!) but you won't find a better price for this.
csuarez325It's not the worst but your options for PC are so open. Cost-wise this is probably one of the better options, but I'd recommend getting a USB mic input like a focusrite Scarlett solo and get a dynamic XLR mic and stand, to minimize the background noise. Headsets aren't the best quality audio but tend to have good cancellation so those also don't pick up a lot of background noise.
Just beware of condenser mics. Those are so sensitive that they are going to pick up most background noises. Blue Yeti/Snowball tend to be popular and decent quality, but they will pick up lots of other sounds in the house/apartment. Those are better suited for a single mic podcast around a table.
The Modmic picks up less than a condenser but typically more than a true cardioid (super)dynamic mic. It just depends on your cost and if you have pets/roommates/family around when you use a mic the most.
Brosefstalin42i am more than happy with my modmic4
i have samson meteor and ath 2020 and i can't bear my teammate over the internet complain hearing my dog barking and traffic car and motorcycle sound as i live in noisy neighborhood right in the middle of city :(
i am happy with modmic4 and already buy second drop from this drop
now my akg k702 and sony ma900 will have mic on it :D
aditxmanI have a Corsair RGB Void headset for my gaming laptop (keeps bulk down plus the mic input isn't the best on my lappy) and the Scarlett solo and behringer 8500 plus either a 6XX or TH-X00 Purpleheart for my gaming PC. I use the Modmic for consoles with a dragonfly red and Schiit Magni 3 and TH-X00 Ebony or a Fidelio X2. It works well.
AntlionJoeThat's tempting, but I already have a Modmic 5, and a DAC. Additional costs of a decent XLR capable ADC of decent quality and a new mic isn't something I need, I'd rather buy more headphones. Good to see you guys branching out a bit though.
