I use mine for headphones only, and it's great, especially with that big, smooth volume dial on the front. I don't use a player in the dock; just pass audio through it from my MacBook and an external DAC.
It will comfortably drive headphones from 16-300 Ohms, and I was happy with it on the mid gain setting with my HD 6XX. Just note that, despite it's description on some product websites, it's not a DAC. Amp only.

I see a lot of small units on here with a headphone jack on the front of the unit and outputs on the back, but they are usually RCA outputs, like the NuForce uDAC-3 DAC/Amp Combo that was just recently submitted to Massdrop.
