I've an old CS model that predates the recon as their budget offering. The steel was unpolished as was the brass guard, but otherwise it was made like their higher end blades. The thing is a beast that I've used hard for 20+ years. It came with a Kydex sheath I eventually cracked, though the leather sheath it also came with is holding up. The thing is a monster; think of it as a sharpened crowbar. Also own one of their Master Tantos in San Mai. but the thing is just too massive to carry and the traditional tsuba gets in the way of any utility task, but dang, the thing cuts and penetrates like crazy.
Big thing I worry about with the current Recon is what's under the the rubber handle up on the guard. If there is a steel quillon under there no problem, but if it's just rubber with minimal or no steel then a serious parry will leave you cut. If you practice FMA with live blades or otherwise carry one for serious business this would be an issue. I keep meaning to buy a used CS blade with the rubber guard/quillon on eBay and then cutting the rubber off to see what's beneath it, but have yet to do so.
