I was mostly referring to Grumpy's suggestion that the X7 would make headphones like the DT990 and K7XX series almost harsh, and that a tube amp would be more suited to them. I haven't been disappointed in my gear yet, but I wasn't sure how much the X7 would differ sonically from the Essence. The highs can be harsh on the 702s, (possibly the fault of the recording), and I guess I was just worrying about whether this unit would make them unlistenable.
PowerGloveGotcha! No problem at all. I can attest that for me personally (and several others that have listed to the K702 and K7XX at the last couple of HeadFI.org events we've been at they were received very well by the show goers (this was at CanJam SoCal and the recent meet up in San Francisco).

PowerGloveSorry if my post was confusing. In the case of the DT990, some Head-Fiers had said that the DT990 was too bright with the X7. Of course, as with most information regarding audio, it has a lot to do with subjectivity. As for the K712s, I personally found them to be a bit harsh for my ears whereas others didn't think that at all. They honestly weren't too bad with my SB Omni (which has a similar sound signature to the X7) but the Vali made them less fatiguing for long listening periods. Right now, I'm using Fidelio X2s on the X7 and they pair quite well. I wish my K712s were functioning so that I could give them a try on the X7.
grumpy1471Not confusing at all grumpy! The beauty (and sometimes maddening thing) about audio is how we all hear stuff in our own way. There's been many sets I've listened to and scratched my head with various amps and said "I don't get it"...and some people SWEAR by the exact same setup.
PowerGlove, the XM7's are definitely not super heavy bass curved (nowhere near the Beats effect...that would be kinda nuts!). They are a bit beefier sounding than the Pioneer SP-BS22-LR but the curve isn't super bass heavy . They do give a good bass punch for their size though..especially if you have it paired with the XM7 and use the profile for the XM7 on the unit. I'll have to read up more on the bass heavy remarks.
