So, all this thing does is throw away the line that carries the reverse phase signal and give you a single-ended connection. You lose all the benefit the balanced connection gives you (which is just noise-rejection). This would function in the same way a cable/converter works. IE, it defeats the balanced functionality.

ZorkerI thought this is simply connecting the 4 poles of the 4.4mm TRRS to 4-pin XLR so the signal stays balanced, is that not the case? So one of the pins is not connected or something?
