So, the brightness on my backlight is a little low, and when you unplug/replug the board, you can see that the LEDs are capable of getting much brighter (I'm using shine through front-printed caps) It doesn't look like that's an option in the configuration app that massdrop put out. does anyone know of a good walkthrough of how to change the power levels to the LEDs? is there a way to read the firmware out of what the configuration app puts out and edit in a text editor? it looks like it's in HEX so I'm not planning on messing with that by hand.

petesabagelAlso, yes, i tried fn+W/S to increase/decrease brightness, that doesn't seem to do anything until I mash fn+s and then it shuts off the backlight and it won't turn on again until I unplug/replug.

petesabagelTry FN+Shift+Ctrl+N. If the keyboard turns off after trying to set it higher, then your USB ports capacity is overloaded (and you want to reboot your system). The keyboard measures the possible powerdraw from the port and lowers its brightness if it detects a probable low powered port. On a MacBook this usually ends up in the lowest brightness setting. At worst, you can overwrite that with your own firmware manually.

DarkMioThat key combination didn’t do anything for me. It’s on a desktop that I built myself. Z170I mobo also it turns off when I play PUBG.... is There a walkthrough to manually setting power numbers anywhere?

petesabagelYou can change these two values up to 255: https://github.com/Massdrop/qmk_firmware/blob/master/keyboards/massdrop/ctrl/config_led.h#L34-L36
If your keyboard turns off, then you might either have not enough power on that USB port or on your Mainboard (which should cause a bluescreen). If your port wont talk to the board anymore, you can start the keyboard (plug it in) with the reset button pressed, then you can reflash default firmware.
It is a security measure, so it could potentially be harmful to your system..

DarkMioThe board doesn’t turn off. Only the backlight. And it’s only happened when I play PUBG. It’s strange to say the least

petesabagelSome mainboards can control per port voltage dynamically (and should). Likely the PCB received power drops and disabled the backlighting all together.

DarkMioNo Bluescreens yet. I think i can try jacking up the brightness, and maybe i'll try the "fast charging" port on my monitor instead of the smarter fast charging port on my Mobo. Is there a walkthrough somewhere of going from code to firmware? I'm pretty familiar with python but compiling c is a little out of my normal wheelhouse.

petesabagelHere you can turn your code into firmware: https://www.massdrop.com/talk/9382/how-to-configure-your-ctrl-keyboard
I'd try to put the default first to 165, then 200, then 255. The difference on the last steps is minimal.
If you plug the board into your monitor, be sure to disable your motherboards support to make USB Keyboard signals to PS/2 Interrupts if you have that option, otherwise you might experience hanging keys.

DarkMioWell, finally had some free time to do some programming...
1. stepped up the brightness and lowered the dimming thresholds by about 10% so far no blue screens or instability.
2. hell yeah now I can see the legends on my front-printed keycaps!
3. This was my first time programming in C, it's not that scary I'm kind of excited to tinker with some alternative lighting setups now... maybe static key backlight and rgb moving perimeter lights?
4. I'm still kind of bummed out by the space grey, since you're close to the whole project, and they just put out a black ano'd high profile alt... think there's going to be a high profile black ano'd ctrl anytime soon? because that'd be like aesthetically PERFECT.
5. the Halo Trues are a bit too stiff, and I generally like MX blue, but wanted something quieter. I get some issues where the stabilizers jam on off-center shift/backspace presses. Maybe if i swap to wire stabs for the shift keys. or blues it might alleviate the mechanical jamming? idk, I might just swap switches for browns unless there's an black ano hi-profile alt coming out?
6. @DarkMio You're the man, thank you for your help x1000000

petesabagelWould it be possible to share the file that you used with us? I unfortunately couldn't get mine to work properly, so I'm hoping to fix it. Thanks!
