Is it possible to pitch the outer first, then the inner from the inside? And the same for dismounting, removing the inner entirely while staying protected, then the outer? It's much nicer to pitch or dismount under rain.

blnoYes. That is how it is designed to pitch.
You stake out the 4 corners of the fly and then insert the trekking poles through the two vents and the outer is pitched. You can then go inside and clip the inner into place. I normally keep the inner clipped inside the outer, so it's fully protected during setup and then once the outer is pitched the inner is already there. Super simple and easy.
