Sharp Legends and Vibrant Colors - A Must-Have Keycap Set!
I recently got my hands on this keycap set, and I'm thoroughly impressed. The legends are incredibly sharp and precise. The bright colors really pop and add a vibrant touch to my setup. It’s a perfect blend of aesthetics and functionality, and I highly recommend it for anyone looking to elevate their keyboard’s look!
I love how the colors of Dolch look together. Really great on a black keyboard.
Of course, they have all the features of DCX - great sound and feel, with crisp legends.
Like other DCX sets, this is very well designed and manufactured, with consistent and legible legends, nice thick keycaps, reasonable coverage across many keyboards, and a really nice colour. I've been looking for a Dolch set for years, and have a couple of other cheaper OEM-profile Dolch-themed sets, but this set really takes the cake (as in, is really good).
Where it is let down is the coverage - there are insufficient keycaps to suit even a Drop-designed keyboard. Most notably there is no "Menu" key at all, despite the issue having been raised with Drop a long time ago, so this set cannot even fit Drop;s own Ctrl keyboard, which needs a 1.25x "Menu" key. There are also no blanks to put in place of the missing "Menu" key.
Nor can I put these on my CODE, Womier, Skyloong or SmartDuck keyboards due to the lack of a "Menu" key. Or the recently designed CTSM80, which also has a "Menu" key.
DCX is also supposed to offer Mac-compatibility i.e. a handful of keycaps with Mac legends on them (at least according to the Drop story on designing DCX keycaps - see https://drop.com/talk/107374/kicking-off-with-the-classic-black-on-white). Where are the Mac keys? Not included with this set, unfortunately.
Overall a great set, but be prepared to make some compromises if you have a keyboard with a "Menu" key.
Quality keyset with no sprue marks or warped spacebars/modifiers. Quality is comparable to my JTK 404 keyset, but in some ways better since JTK molds leave a visible mark on the north face of each keycap. Not that you ever really see it. The texture is pretty smooth, but not uncomfortable to type on. DCX profile is a little different from Cherry in that mixing in Cherry keycaps was just ever so noticeable to my eye. Feels the same typing on it though.
A little disappointed at the shade of blue used on accents but I knew it from user photos going into it, and I’ll probably pick up a red accent kit to replace them.
DCX keycaps are nice. The only thing that bothers me is that the "t" in the delete keys is slightly bolder than the rest of the letters on the keycap. Otherwise, excellent alternative to GMK for a much lower price. I should also add, they are much more shine-resistant than GMK keycaps.
Standard DCX here, good base kit and packaging, and now good legends (no more Shif t). Would like to see a couple more accent options besides the included and the current 3 options in the accents kit (maybe some bolder colors like MT3 3277). But overall a solid keycap set, I have no complaints, and an amazing deal during the bogo sales.
