In our sixth collaboration with famed audio brand HIFIMAN, we’re counting back down to five—5XX, that is. Introducing the Drop + HIFIMAN HE5XX planar magnetic headphones: a high-resolution exclusive with legendary lineage Read More
Hi guys, I'm new to mid-fi/hi-fi world and so don't know terms very well.
The only headphones I've used have been Bose QC35, Philips X2HR, and AKG K701.
I am not at all a fan of the X2HR, it sounds very dark and murky
and lacking in detail/resolution, and is too intimate (I think is the
term - everything sound in your head compared to the space of the K701).
I really like the sound signature of the AKG K701. I think it is the clarity, neutralness, and soundstage. It is great sounding to my ears in the sound signature, I think.
But it is lacking a tiny bit of bass (just a TINY bit, for me), and the
cable is ridiculously long at 10ft. So I am shopping for an alternative.
I settled on either 400i 2020 (which as I understand is similar sounding to HE-4XX), or the HE-5XX.
Which one would have a sound signature more similar to the AKG K701? The 5XX, or the 400i 2020?
I like to listen to dark ambient music, instrumentals, and natural
soundscapes, so crispness(?) and stage is important to me I suppose, but
dark ambient also tends to have a lot of low guttural bass, too (once
again, I believe -- I'm not knowledgeable with terms, forgive me in
advance)
Good to hear you like the 400i! Out of curiosity, is it the 2020 model? How do you find it comfort-wise compared to the K701? I found the AKG to be incredibly comfortable!
I have had my 400i since 2017, to me they are really comfortable and never had any issue with them, i don't know how the 2020 ones with the new headband feel tho.
Also i think the K701 would be a bit more comfier because the earpads are bigger overall.
Just received my pair and I love them. Only issue is the pads aren't giving me a great seal- specifically, leaving a gap behind my ear. Could someone recommend replacement ear pads? Thanks!
Right going to cut to it, Need an XLR upgrade option, Need a headband upgrade option. Finally I'm 50/50 on keeping the grills or replacing them with 4/5 stainless steel mesh (Sundara) or hex black. The internal wiring from pictures online looks cheap, nasty & restrained internally compared to Hifiman released products. I hope it's just how it looks, Reviews seem to suggest this is the case.
I’ve never had worse customer service. The headphones finally arrived, only one driver worked, and after multiple requests over multiple days, I can’t even get anyone to contact me. The next email will be to my state’s attorney general.
You are welcome to your opinion, such as it is. I bought a product from a company and the product turned out to be defective. I reached out multiple times over several days trying to get an answer from them as to how to RMA the product. I received zero communication from them, and have a limited time under which to RMA the item or I just have to keep it and be out the money. What is your wise suggestion?
its just the idea that they reduced them for possibly a week and then raised them back up before the stimulus checks arrived. There were several people that wanted to get them at that price but needed to wait till they got their check.
