I loved the original Holy Panda X's but I didn't like how much light they cut out. These clear editions fix that issue beautifully. Original order got lost and second took awhile but they are here now :) Excellent packaging.
These switches have the perfect mix of pressure required to press and tactile feedback that feels very nice. They are overall fairly quiet but definitely wouldn't call them silent.
I had some Halo clear switches on this board previously but I found them very unsatisfying compared to these.
Interesting tactile feedback with taller profile keycaps, heavier keycaps, and denser keycaps. Especially enjoyed using them with my new Ceramic Keycaps (if you know, you know), and the stem is tall enough to avoid north-facing interference. Its feel may not be for everyone, but most tactile enthusiasts should be able to find a use for it.
Stock, they feel and sound more like a heavier Gateron Brown pro or Halo Clear, both cheaper switches. I probably couldn't tell them apart from HPX if blind folded (which is what they were going for). These benefit greatly from hand lubing with 205g0/3203 and sound/feel completely different (and better) afterwards. If you're looking for a medium/heavy tactile with decent RGB diffusion that are perfectly fine to use stock, I suggest Baby Kangaroos, Azure Dragons, Voyagers, Durock T1's or Clione Limacinas (tactile version).
I would only pick these up again if they were on a pretty deep discount or I had a big DKC coupon with nothing else to buy.
Excellent switches, but price increase is a downer
I have these on two of my keyboards. These are amongst the best tactiles that I have tried. They have a distinct bump near the top of the press, with a fair amount of after-travel, very smooth motion and great thocky sound even out of the box. Lubing made little difference in smoothness, but the thockiness and consistency of the sound did respond well to filming and lubing, even though there was very little apparent case wobble. One minor gripe is that the activation point is distinctly after the tactile bump, so if you are using the bump to try to detect activation and train yourself to type lightly and stop during after-travel without bottoming out, there is a risk of not activating the switch, and this happened to me a few times. Still, I would rank these in the top tier of tactiles. However, I also bought them before the latest price increase, which almost doubled the cost per switch, and at this price, I will probably not buy any more. Their main competitors are probably the Baby Kangaroos (fairly similar), and the Voyager (more tactile with almost no after-travel, though clackier), and both of those switches are now more economical。
I have the OG holy panda switches, and these clear holy panda x switches don't really have the same feel. Don't get me wrong, they are not bad. They feel smoother than the OG and similar tacile feel, however, as the stems are shorter, the bottom out feel and sound isn't quite the same. I still recommend them to those who are seeking for a great tacile switch, and of course RGB shine through!
Fun fact, Drop accidentally sent me an extra box of switches.
I appreciated the token of goodwill, because I ended up needed it. All 40 extra switches have been used up as replacements for failing switches in the year since I received them.
It stings that I have to give them up and go with another switch now, because they've been by far the nicest switches to type on. I even prefer them to my original Holy Pandas, but the reliability has been just awful.
I don't know if it's over-lube, manufacturing defects or what, but in my experience, the switches have been completely unreliable. The failure rate for keys that develop double to quadruple tapping, or outright die entirely, is completely unacceptable.
I should give this a one star because of it's unbelievably poor long term performance, but ultimately, these are still the nicest switches I've ever used, hence never bothering to reach out to support for replacement. Hell, they did send me a bonus pack already, even if they didn't mean to. I'm not looking the gift horse in the mouth.
Unfortunately though, it's been over a year of frustration and pulling out dead switches, popping in new ones like candy. I cannot recommend these until quality control dramatically improves. Who knows, maybe it already is, but I found a thread full of people having the same problems I did, so I'm not inclined to test the waters again myself.
Please turn it around guys.
These stems have a little chunk cut out of them which causes keys to pop off when typing.
I reported this to DROP and explained my keys pop off their stems all the time, requesting a solution. They told me the missing chunk was intentional and not a design flaw and they had no solution.
Don’t buy these switches. Keys pop off them after a very short amount of use. They’re junk.
Needed lube and film. Still a little more wobble than my old Glorious Pandas. Tactile bump is perfect, but bottom out is loud and I've been unable to remove spring ping. Double hits/key chatter on 2 switches only 2 months in. Reason for price drop confirmed. These are a step back from the black and yellow holy panda x.
I have loved these switches for gaming and typing but unfortunately I as well am beginning to get the dreaded key chatter. Will be looking into getting more switches but may move away from these.
I ordered these at the same time I ordered the Moondrop Tactile Tessence and these were not my favorite. The spring weight and tactility on these seemed middle of the road and pleasing, they are definitely scratchy out of the box, more wobbly than the Moondrops, and the sound signature on these is relatively quiet and underwhelming. I will trying hand lubing these and posting an update, but so far I have preferred the Tessence in almost every way. I didn't lube either set and the Tessence feel near perfect right out of the box. If I were to catch these on a great sale and the tessence weren't available I would grab these, but for $1 a switch retail I would pass them up and search for something I like better.
