It's good but it's not best value for money
Listen. I'm not gonna lie. It's a pretty good headphone. The FR tuning was clearly handled by someone who knew what they were doing. It's very balanced, not particularly V-sounding. The thing has planar bass not as good as the LCD-2C but still pretty respectable (again the CX is not a bassy headphone but the bass it does have is pretty good). It's closed (a solid advantage all things considered). But at 900 dollars...why would you get this. The black friday 700 dollar price is much more competitive, but the 900 was just not. For 700 you could get the Elex, which is arguably much better sounding though it is not closed. The focal headphones also have pretty solid bass that has a very fast subwoofer like presentation. So perhaps not to the level of a planar, but very good nonetheless. And you would not be getting an inferior experience in any sense. I would even argue that the more expensive focal clear might even be a better option than the CX as well if you caught it on sale. Or better yet. Just get a 6XX, a good amp like the ZDT Jr. plus the JAN GE tubes that people are talking about, and enjoy an arguably comparable level of quality that would perhaps even cost less at the end of the day. I just can't understand why this is 900 dollars considering the rest off Drop's product lineup. TLDR just get the elex or get the 6XX and save a few bucks. If this goes on sale again for 700, evaluate your priorities and this might be the move.

MFillmoreI agree. At $700 it should of came with headphone case and two sets of cables instead of one cable with extension 3.5mm adapter. I always liked the closed back ether look and planar tech. Save the $900 for mr speakers aeon 2.

MFillmoreThese seem to be targeting the professional monitoring market with the build and FR. I'd compare to the DT 1990s or 1770s first since that's its real competition. Furthermore comparing dynamic headphone pricing to planar pricing is pointless because planars add production cost. Whether planars sound better is irrelevent, they are just more expensive. In the actual category of closed back planars (pretty niche), drop doesn't have any contenders.

PaperdragonsListen I'm going to be as respectful as I can in response to you. But this reply shows a lack of thought that I think needs to be addressed for the sake of all the vulnerable young people out there. Cost always matters even when different headphone technologies are at play. This is because at the end of the day they fill the same function. If there is no compelling reason why in terms of sound quality, etc that you should pay more that's the end of it. No one should be paying more for the thought "oh i'm listening to a planar and that's somehow intirinsically valuable". If the dynamic driver provides better sound quality at a low price point, then there's no reason to get the planar. If you think there is, I think you should evaluate the probably exorbitant amount of money you spend on multiple headphones just for the sake of "variety". At the end of the day, a headphone is a functional object. If you want to be lost in the world of pointless/excess materialism, that's your business. Also seeing as you parroted an opinion from a headphone youtuber whose name I will not mention because his garbage tier videos don't deserve any more promotion, I also have to address that issue. This is a headphone from a BOUTIQUE audio company, and costs way more than the headphones that they'd want floating around the studio. There's no way you'd have thousand dollar headphones (after taxes) just sitting there especially when they aren't necessary to do the job. You'd also not go to a boutique company to provide these headphones for you. If you actually own these and don't do professional monitoring, then you are doubly brain dead by your own logic. The build?? What about thin wires, a leather strap, and carbon fiber ear cups screams workhorse to you. You would never throw these into the back of a van or have people wear these while recording for hours long sessions or give them to people to use when recording a podcast etc. That is so brain dead no offense. There are headphones that are dramatically cheaper that do the job better, from a business investment perspective, these would make no sense. Then you have the gall to come in here and tell me that the FR targets monitoring. Have you ever actually done monitoring when it counted for something?? And no, shitty soundcloud/bandcamp lo fi hip hop beats or whatever shitty podcast/tracks/youtube videos you make don't count. These headphones are not revealing enough for that purpose at all. They actually lean a bit dark, which is not what I want when I'm actually WORKING. These headphones are targeted towards listening, not mixing, mastering, or monitoring. I'm just going to take a stab at what "monitoring" means to you. The real thing that people are trying to say is..Oh the bass isn't that good but its very pleasant and the treble is clear. I think its boring becuz no bass so I'm gonna call a neutral ish headphone for "monitoring". Oh and the build looks "professional" as in it looks nice and its all black. Listen, I get that you watch the youtube audio bros and think that you know things. And you go out and buy redundant headphones for the sake of "variety" AKA putting sponsorship/affiliate link money in the pocket of youtubers who don't really give a shit about whether you have a good audio experience. They need and want you to keep buying things. There are so many products you wouldn't buy if it didn't actually offer a compelling reason beyond negligible novelty. If something doesn't sound better, it costing more is an issue, not the expectation you fool. And before you go parotting a head-fi filtered opinion that you didn't even arrive at on your own, THINK ABOUT IT FIRST. Can you imagine what would happen if some kid got fooled into thinking that these are the headphones he needs to start an aspiring music career or other content creation career? He spends his last 900 dollars on these headphones foregoing food, potentially other essentials? These are not worthwhile from a business perspective at all. Words matter. These headphones sound neutral, but that's not what professionals need exactly and especially not this expensive. Also, talking about costs means that in order for planars to be competitive they will need to improve the technology or improve production efficiency. This is better for everyone. But you're going to sit here and defend something being overpriced. Like its our bad that it costs more. That is so brain dead. I don't know how old you are, but seriously, you need to see the bigger picture here.
