It will FIT, but it won't work properly. CTRL/ALT have north-facing switches, and Cherry-profile caps generally (read ALWAYS for GMK caps) have an annoying interference with the switches-- meaning the cap will hit the top housing of the switch before the stroke bottoms out, especially in rows 2 and 3.
sabinxBullshit. GMK has been around for decades and uses the same molds for all their keycap sets. They most certainly didn't design this specifically with ALT/CTRL in mind. Look up "North & South Facing Switch Interference Test with GMK Keycaps" on YouTube for more info. It might sound not so bad, but once you put the caps on your CTRL and feel the interference, you're going to regret having bought it. If you have a keyboard with north-facing switch slots (basically every hot-swap with Kaihl sockets and SMD LED support), buy cheaper, thin keycaps-- the thickness is what causes the interference-- or look for another board. Or you can use the very few switches that have shorter travel/longer stems (like the Holy Pandas).
Cheers.
IrgwkiPS: I'm talking Cherry-profile caps. Anything else that is either taller or symmetrical-- SA, XDA, DSA, OEM, etc-- should be fine, regardless of thickness.
IrgwkiAppreciate the detailed reply. I'll check it out. Im ordering this set but was interested in the alt high profile, that's why I was asking.
Any other decent pre-built you'd recommend? Was thinking of also going for a customised 65% Varmilo but when they get aluminium case back in stock. Thanks
Irgwkirecently purchased the alt and wanted these caps. would changing the switches fix the problem (bought cherry browns), and is the use of north/south switches determined by the pcb? new to mechs so i'm having some anything helps.
IrgwkiIf this is true, it seems hgihly disingenuous from Drop. Luckily, you say Holy Pandas should not cause interference which is what I have, but they specifically state these are compatible with their most popular keyboards.
IrgwkiSorry to bother you with this, but i´m kinda new. How can i know if the preonic have these problems? i want to use gateron blacks and i cannot find this info anywhere. I was about to start buying GMK sets...
Thanks for your time.
GutsPKI did some research on this and here is what I have found:
These caps (or other GMK Key caps with cherry profile) would have interference on the switches when your pcb has a north-facing (which means led socket of the switch is away from you) layout.
Some switches(like Drop holy panda and glorious panda) are immune to the interference due to a longer stem.
So if you want to put thses keycaps on a north-facing kit, just go for the holy panda swithces.
MDooperhalo trues actually use the same stem as holy pandas so you are fine with gmk caps. you can also just dremel off a thin layer of plastic on the switch where it makes contact if you have other brands of switches.
IrgwkiAny idea if Zealios V2 have a long enough stem to be immune to this issue? I think those switches were built to compete with the Holy Pandas so I'm thinking maybe the stem is similar.
IrgwkiYou are vastly overstating this issue. The north facing issue only really comes up with there are traditional LEDs involved. I have dozens of keyboards and at least half are Cherry MX with north facing switches, and only the single LED backlight models (not SMD) have any interference. I have the GMK Red Samurai on my CTRL high profile right now and it is fine and before that I had my 1.5mm PBT Cherry Profile caps on it with no issues.
Kronodeusno one really understands how interference works eh.. its not the switch that causes interference its the pcb, if the leds are south facing(down) then it wont have interference. north facing leds(up) will cause interference with CHERRY profile keycaps row 3 keys since they are rather shorter
ProxyPoopdrop ctrl uses north facing leds so still some interference buddy, but tactiles sound doesnt really change that much even with intereference doe
