Who here is preordering? Why or why not?

DavestefA lot of people (including myself) pre-ordered on the same day it went live. Why? It's $1100 out of pocket, but in the end just $900 were spent for revised HD 8XX. The other $200 are given back in points to buy something else on Drop. Simple logic. Makes sense for plenty of people. I used my points for the Aeon Open X. I ordered them on Saturday and are scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. Sure, I have to wait until November for the HD 8XX, but at least I got the Aeon Open X for a crazy price. Two headphones for a crazy price. Why not?

DavestefNot pre-ordering because I already have a HD800SDR, so will be waiting to see some reviews to see if it's different enough to worth purchasing, or if it would just end up being more or less similar enough.

DavestefPre-ordering mainly because I am being highly optimistic about the improved low-end and that the dip in the mids isnt noticeable. Got 9 months to cancel if reviews change my mind. What will be really weird is if no reviews are released at all between now and November....

DavestefI preordered because I have nothing to lose. I loved the 800S, but wanted more bass and a smoother treble. If this exclusive gives me that, it’s a home run in my book. If it doesn’t, I cancel my order or return it within 30 days and get a full refund. There is no way to lose and a strong chance to win.

DavestefI want to pre-order because the bass makes a big difference, two things, the 9 months wait (that'll be just before Christmas by the looks of it before I'll get it in Australia and what happens in the unlikely event that Drop folds over before then, you are the unsecured creditor?

ConroeI would just file a dispute with my credit card company if Drop happened to go out of business without refunding people.

PandaSPURYeah, that's not going to work, maybe for the first few months only, after that, you're on your own. If this was to be delivered by June, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

ConroeWith Amex, for "goods not received" the dispute window can be extended based on their discretion. Check with your specific CC provider to see what the terms are if you're really worried. I doubt Drop would go bankrupt in the next 9 months anyway though.

PandaSPURThanks for the feedback. I have Mastercard and 3 months is about as far as they can stretch it if you want to dispute an item, generally within 2 months. No, I would not like to see anything drastic ever happen to Drop hence I said in the unlikely event. That said, $1100 (not 1 or 2 or even 3 hundred), is a fair bit of money to put upfront in one go when shit hits the fan as with Covid19 things can go from fantastic to bad in a blink of an eye.

DavestefI am strongly considering it. I am willing to live with not having official Sennheiser support and the EU fees and taxes. Even adding all that up, HD 8XX is still a better deal than new HD 800 S while likely being superior to them. Also the blue accent is unique and dope. What is also very tempting for me is the 20000 Drop Reward Points. I would immediately turn them into $200, add the $10 discount I got signing up and buy the THX AAA 789 amplifier for $89. So far I've been driving my HD 650 from Asus Xonar Essence STX. That THX looks to me like the perfect upgrade and I would get use out of it right away until HD 8XX arrive. In my head that makes the HD 8XX truly cost just $900. Which is quite a deal for a flagship headphones. Plus there is still the possibility to cancel and 30 days to return them in case of a catastrophe. Then I will still have the amp, which is an entirely proven product. PS: I think it will not be a full refund, because of the spent Drop Reward Points, but I want that amp anyway.
