You say it adheres closely to the Harman Target. Do you have Harman-compliant GRAS 45CA measurements to confirm this? Can't expect people to just buy based on that without backing it up.
Measurements are coming. Hopefully live today.
To be clear though, we are not saying the Signature X adheres closely to the Harman curve. This is what we're saying:
A variation of Ultrasone’s popular Signature Series Pulse Headphones—designed for DJs, with a sound signature that closely adheres to the bass-emphasized Harman Target Curve—the Signature X keeps its predecessors bass-centric identity, with a new tuning that adds energy to other key areas of the frequency spectrum.
Jyri_DropYour copy literally says this: "With the Signature X, we tightened up the tuning to more closely match the Harman Target Curve in certain areas, while making key deviations in others". Sounds like this headphone is closer to the Harman target than the headphone it's based on--the Signature Pulse. Am I missing something?
StivVidI think what they're saying is that it's not 1:1 on the Harman Target Curve but in comparison to the Signature Series Pulse it leans closer to the Harman Target Curve. Still has the Signature bass, just tuned a little more to HTC.
That's how I read it but we'll have better answers once the graph comes out.
Jyri_DropWhere did the measurement go, can you add it back? Thank you. I find it very useful to compare how I personally EQ by ear and not by graphs and compare the two, since I've not recieved the headphones yet, I find it a bit of a bummer. I expect at-the-very-least, a comment as to why it has been removed.
Measurements might be inaccurate in some headphones.
Ultrasone is known for its utilisation of our pinna, calling it S-Logic. It helps spatial qualities.
The problem is, it is highly dependent on how your (or the Measurement rig's) pinna is shaped.
Spatial qualities and Treble responses will highly differ. You might get exaggerated treble peaks that will make cans just not usable. this is especially the case with the Ultrasone Edition series. Not many people can withstand those cans.
Your safest bet will be to try the Ultrasone Signature series in your nearest shop(if that is possible) and check if the S-Logic on these headphones works out for you.
D21esWe did find the there were some table peaks that might be attributed to the S-Logic diffusers, and while they do show up in a graph it was not something we heard in our listening tests with music. During the tuning process we were careful to avoid an overly bright or sharp sounding treble response, testing certain songs like Sweet Jane by the Cowboy Junkies to listen for sibilance or harshness.
D21esUser response due to the shape of their pinna (or diameter of the ear canal) is not exclusive to S-Logic… except for in-ear headphones, most headphones have some outer ear interaction. We use these parts of our ears when listening to speakers and natural environment sounds to help provide our brains with extra information about direction and distance (because higher frequencies are more directional), so incorporating this physiological tuning response helps headphones sound more like how we are used to hearing the “live” world.
It is true that every ear has a resonance at some frequency (varies from person to person) that increases the listener’s perception of that frequency (aka louder), but the Signature X’ as upper mids and treble response is more laid back than most headphones. Rather than exaggerated treble peaks, this headphone is a bit darker (and more bass emphasized) than the HD 6xx.
EvshrugThe HD 6XX is not especially bright, just neutral, so a darker sound would mean, to me, a lack of critical definition, sparkle and atmosphere. Yeah?
eddiezrDark means less amplitude in the highs. The HD 6xx itself has somewhat laid back treble, but it has is a bit more upper mids to kind of hide this and make it feel more neutral. The Signature X has plenty of clarity, but both the upper mids and treble seem (to me) a little relaxed and less aggressive, thankfully I also don’t feel it’s lacking in treble extension (so I do get a bit of that atmosphere that helps the sensation of soundstage).
You can achieve brain-burn in with both headphones and acclimatize to them! My Signature X is even a little more dark than stock because I put on some larger earpads I had laying around, but I’ve still been using them frequently and happily at my computer for months now :)
EvshrugSo, the Signature X is probably not necessary for me. I've got the 58X which is slightly less neutral than the 600 or even 6XX, with added sub bass, which I appreciate. The uppers seem about the same to my probably imperfect ears. I'm very impressed with the 58X, more so than I expected to be for the price which was $140. Thanx for the response, I think I get it now. 😀👍
The cables they come with are single ended, but a locking balanced cable will be available from Ultrasone at a later date. *edited to add that a balanced cable is included in the box,*
1st off I currently have & listen and use religiously the "V-MODA Crossfade 3". Those are awesome by my standards. No audiophile. ????lol! I listen to metal, punk, Hardcore. Good stuff. If These have A quality loudness that doesn't break and A sound spectrum that is par. Somebody that has these and isn't gonna nit pic about stuff nobody cares about and knows quality sounds without being a dork please respond.
No graph shown supporting the bass performance, sure to be present tho, if you are looking for that.
Yes, it would be a move up from the “V”.
The HD 58X will do this for less money.
