How is this item different than T-shirts sold at J.Crew or Uniqlo?

I've had this shirt for a few months. It seems incredibly sturdy. At first, I didn't exactly like the fit. It was a bit uncomfortable, and the material seemed too coarse. But it has formed to my body over time and the material has softened. It's almost like it had a break in period... which is not what I'd expect a t-shirt to need.
The shirt also holds shape (probably because it's thicker than most tshirts), I can wear it multiple times before it needs to be washed. Where as some of my cheaper shirts from other companies, I need to wash them and dry them on high heat after each wear so that they shrink back up because they get all loosy goosy.

I find Velva Sheen tend to loosen up a bit after wearing and washing. Don't worry about shrinkage, the shirts form to your body over time.

There have been some reviewers speculating that either the sizing from regular VelvaSheen has changed for Drop - others are just saying the sizing chart might not be quite accurate. Can anyone measure their shirts and let me know? Small and Medium most desired, but really just any way to double check the sizing chart would be great. Thanks.
