Fun and detailed
Extremely fun headphones, bass is refined but impactful without compromising mids or highs. Semiclosed, leaks a bit of sound but not too much, makes them enjoyable for long hours without causing fatigue. The only con I can think of is they don't take EQ as easy as planars, but still can benefit much from it. I ordered the Teak version but got the Ebony instead. Drop quickly responded and sent me the correct ones. After trying both I clearly choose the Teaks, the Ebony are a bit boring for my taste.

Mismatched drivers one was 24 ohms the other 42!
Mismatched drivers one was 24 ohms the other 42! They are an ok set of headphones construction wise, but the mismatched drivers means quality control is non existent - bass was a bit overwhelming and some highs were a bit uneven, stage and image obviously not good since mismatched drivers. Going back as defective. Maybe one day I will try again but for now I will stick with the XTC.

Unparalleled bass in exchange for paralleled comfort.
Despite not being a basshead, somehow over the years I've acquired quite the collection of bassy headphones and iems. Of that collection, and everything else I've heard - nothing does bass better than the E-MU Teak's. The Teak's offer thick, lush, powerful, authoritative bass with no compromise to clarity or detail throughout. Somehow they even slam like planars. In terms of raw sound quality for bass and just this type of sound signature in general, I don't think you can do better without crossing the $1,000 mark. In fact, I'm not even sure anything else comes close. Regarding amplification, the Teak's are lightweight and easy to run from any source, but I've found that high power sources bring out the best these headphones have to offer. Now that said, the E-MU Teak is part of the legendary Foster Bio-Dynamics family, and that means they are not without their compromises to fit and comfort. The Teak's inherit their frame from the Denon and Fostex bio-dyns of old, if you're familiar with any of those, the experience is nearly 1:1. The headband has almost no padding; depending on how sensitive you are to these things, it can feel like there's two heavy metal wire hangers sitting on your head. Hotspots abound too. The length adjustment mechanism is also the same as the old Denons, it feels flimsy and is a historically common failure point for this family of headphones. While I've never had issues with it on my old Denon D5000 or Teak's, you'll definitely need to handle the adjustment mechanism with care when using these headphones. The stock earpads are also not great, they're relatively thin and like to get hot. At the best of times they're not super comfy, but if you have bigger/wider ears they might just be a no-go altogether. If you do decided to replace them, the actual act of replacement is super easy; but finding suitable earpads that retain the musical qualities that make the Teak's truly special is hard, be sure to do your research. The headphones are also technically semi-open. While I don't think anyone nearby could really clearly hear what you're listening to, there is definitely more sound leakage here than with your average closed-back. Overall the Teak's are not without their flaws and compromises, but if you feel you can live with them - or are will to put the extra effort and cash into overcoming then outright, you will find yourself rewarded with some of the most sublime, lush, pillow-ey, zero compromise bass you will ever experience in a headphone. For me, the Teak is well worth it's weight in gold.

Great headphones!
I have tried many headphones more expensive than E-MUs, but I always return to these. Bass is just so good! Addictive sound. Build quality could be a notch better but nothing more to complain about. If you have bigger ears, these could be little uncomfortable, ear openings are small.

Great headphones overall but arrived open box
The E-mu Teak sound incredible for metal, phonk and electronic music. Powerful, impactful, clean bass is mind-blowing. I really like this sound signature for my music genres. Comfort - comfortable for the most part, the pads can be better - overall comfort is decent but I find myself often re-adjusting the pads. Build quality could be better for the price - could use real leather and have larger earcup size. The headphones look premium and would feel more premium if real leather was used. The hinge connecting earcups to headband looks like a potential point of failure in the future.

Great Sound, Beautiful Cups
E-MU with Rosewood cups. Fantastic sound, v shaped with tasteful bass and treble boost; clear sound with wide sound stage, crisp imaging. The rosewood cups are gorgeous, cant find any blemishes or issues with build. Biggest issues are the pads have a small ear opening, unless you have tiny ears you'll need a pad swap. I'm hesitant to swap pads given how well tuned these are out of the box.

joeshtesh475Beware with the pad swap as there's an attenuator built into the stock pads.

The most beautiful EMU headphone I got
This is my 3rd EMU headphone the first 2 where with built in wires but I wanted something that is removable. This is the best of the bunch. the ebony cups looks stunning. I don't really go for glossy finish but this one I can appreciate. The sounds you say? The sound is leaning towards neutral since the Ebony cups are really hardwood. But it still got enough of the boombassticc that it didn't really matter that it is more neutral.

vken27You got your Ebony already? Or is these from earlier drop?
SuprMasuI got it last week. It took DROP 3 months to shipped it. I guess in the end it was worth the wait. I initially wanted teak but then I already have the bamboo and wanted something different. for me, the cups heavy weight and finish just looks and feels more premium. And there was no molds in my box which I just throw away anyways after I got the headphones since I live in a tiny home.

Strong smell of mold inside the box
Mold inside the Emu Teak headphone's box both for the first pair and the second, replacement pair. Overall, not acceptable for a $500 pair of headphone or any headphones. Further more, the box is very thin, cardboard construction which can be damaged easily during shipment. For the ordering process, it took about 2 months from order to arrival, and refund took about 1 month after shipping it back.

Headfi101Hi Headfi101, Sorry for the late response. The shipment was supposed to reach you all before Christmas. However due to some logistics issues, the shipment only reached Drop's New Jersey warehouse at the end of January. In January, FedEx announced national service disruption due to storm and severe weather. The shipment was stuck in the Fedex transit warehouse. The growth of mold was likely due to extreme weather, high humidity, poor and prolong storage condition. The replacement unit is also affected as they belong to the same shipment. Please refer to the article link for the FedEx announcement - https://www.actionnews5.com/2024/01/24/fedex-express-announces-national-service-disruption-due-severe-weather/ Please contact us at support@emu.com if you need any clarification or assistance.
