Sennheiser PC37X randomly goes bad after disconnecting the cable ?
Greetings, Yesterday I was using my headset like normal with my macbook, just listening to music and on a call with people like usual, and the headset was perfectly fine. The stock wire that came with the headset is extremely long and yesterday it annoyed me very much that it kept getting tangled with itself, so I decided to see if the cable is replaceable. I pulled out the cable from the headset and saw the adapter, and looked online for a replacement. Upon plugging it back in, the audio sounded extremely muffled and washed out. Im not sure what I did wrong to make it mess up like that as I've always taken good care of it, ive had it for about 2 years and its always just been chilling on my desk, but anywho I thought the cable just went bad and ordered a replacement. The replacement came, and the issue is still persistant, so I am not sure what the issue is I've tried multiple different headsets and the issue is not with the port, and I also tried it with my windows laptop and...

But I can definitely see why most would lean towards E-Mu Teak. :)
Classical: E-Mu Teak. Acoustic: String instruments sound better on E-Mu Teak but TH-X00 sounds more upfront and personal (E-Mu Teak sounds a bit too far for my taste). Rock: Again debatable where vocal sounds more real on E-Mu but too far for my taste, snare and drum kicks are better on TH-X00. Guitar strings are better on E-Mu but both are still way better than most headphone. Pop: Close enough on both but my pick is TH-X00. Dance/EDM/R&B: TH-X00.
For me the deciding point is string/guitar/piano sounds better on E-Mu Teak while male vocal is about the same, female vocal is a bit recessed on E-Mu Teak (which was my deciding point, I REALLY like forward vocal so recessed is bad for my preferece), snare and kick drums are better on TH-X00.
E-Mu Teak has wider sound stage and TH-X00 has closer sound stage (can be boosted to huge sound stage if you swap ear pad, though changes sound a bit). That being said, Teak cup is unique on its own, if you swap E-Mu to Rosewood or Ebony it will sound way closer to TH-X00 than E-Mu Teak.
In essence Teak sound like itself, Rosewood, Ebony, Mahogany, Purpleheart.... etc sound like each other.
I'm listening to my E-Mu Teak right now as I'm typing this message..... yeahhh...... Teak is meant to be more balanced/neutral.
That being said, since your budget is $1600 USD that actually open up A LOT of options. Do you want closed or open? Also what's your current headphone? Do you currently have any DAC or AMP? My assumption is that if you're just starting your audiophile road you don't need to jump that deep off the bat, TH-X00 Ebony is a good starting point. That being said, I've heard a lot of good things about ZMF Atticus and ZMF Eikon. Those really good and under $1600, can probably read up more about it if you're willing to go that far. :P
In terms of detail, the TH-X00 Ebony will rival the detail of K712 (not sure about AD2000X but probably not far off). Bass will for sure be punchier and tighter than the X2. BUT (huge but) I noticed all your headphone are open and TH-X00 Ebony is closed so you'll lose out on sound stage hugely. So if you're used to huge soundstage you might be disappointed (although every other aspect will be better than your current headphones).
At this you can make 2 choice, either buy TH-X00 Ebony ($500) or just go nuts (keep in mind what I'm gonna suggest next will require a decent AMP/DAC like a Schiit stack or better). So if you're willing to go second hand I'll just throw you a few choices and see what you can find. As I've mentioned ZMF Atticus/Eikon are very good closed back with decent soundstage, beyond that you can look into Monoprice Monolith M1060 (look for version 2), LCD 2 Classic or even LCD X. Depending on how much you're willing to spend and what you can find you can explore around those choice. Just remember to save some money for DAC/AMP since planar are power hungry.
Ok I should stop writing it's going out of hand LOL.
