Still, I'm not sure how you can say "Much better out there for less money" if you haven't heard the Edifier to compare. Is this your opinion or someone else's? From all the reviews I've been able to find on the Edifiers and Klipsch, the Edifiers consistently come out on top.
I do wish there were more reviews available from people who have compare them together. I've been researching options, and currently I've narrowed it down to either these S1000DB, the Edifier R2000DB, or JBL 305.
My qualifications are: good sound (obvious), ample bass without a separate woofer, and <$300 as that is my max budget for bookshelf speakers. They can be either powered or passive. I've been slowly looking at reviews here and there for about a month now, and I still have it narrowed to Edifier (S1000DB or R2000DB) and JBL LSR305.
The Edifier have bluetooth and a lot of great reviews for how they sound. The JBL have more reviews on them from people that review audio all the time, and especially have more reviews that compare them positively to competitor speakers in the <500 price range. They don't have Bluetooth, if that matters to you.
I just noticed that these now have a $275 price if enough buy in. That might be enough for me to pull the trigger. JBL would be ~$280 shipped, which puts them fairly head-to-head. Or maybe I'll give my wallet a good gut-punch and just buy both to compare them myself. Time will tell...
Without hearing any of them, and if they were all the same price, my choice would be Edifier S1000DB > JBL LSR305 > Edifier R2000DB
Where the R-15pm's shine is their plate amp. I really like the auto-sleep feature, where they'll auto-wake up from any of the inputs that I've tried. I use it w/ an Amazon Dot, and it's my daily alarm clock / bedroom system. I sleep about 9 inches from them, and they're dead quiet when not in use.
