Also, a stupid question from a mechanical/DIY keyboard newbie: it seems like a lot of the keycap sets on Massdrop are blank, and a lot of the ones you can get elsewhere (for instance, http://www.keycapsdirect.com/marketplace.php) are blank too. Where do people source non-blank keycaps suitable for ErgoDox, or, alternately, how do people label them?
Thanks.

jefferaiYou can just get a standard keycap set (say a Max keycap set or a Ducky or a Vortex or a Cherry). The problem is that those are profiles where the row height changes, so while the letters will be fine (if you use QWERTY) the thumb cluster will be odd. Additionally, since everyone is different, the keyboard is very configurable, and some people might use Dvorak and other's might use Colemak. Additionally, all the keys on the side and the Enter, Space, Delete, and Backspace (in the default layout) are odd for a keyboard.
You can get printed caps from Signature Plastics (your URL), but you have to make a custom order, and at around $3 a cap, it will be around $225. So, people go for blanks.

RambonoboI understand why people go for blanks, what I don't understand is how you then label them...either for your own use while you figure out the thumbs, or so that other people can manage to type something on it. :-)

Rambonobo@Rambonobo so am I right thinking that I should be fine getting http://www.mechkb.com/vortex-double-shot-pbt-key-caps and simply either getting a few custom keycaps or making do with the long ones that are included in that set?

jefferaiI've got an ErgoDox at the moment using a Poker 2 keycaps for the main board, and SP unlabeled for the thumb cluster. It is definitely doable, and the thick PBT of the Poker 2 keycaps is pretty awesome. The Poker 2 and the Vortex caps have the same feel, but you can feel the printing on the ones in the photo I include. Picture included.
