How do you reckon this will do against the ATH-R70x or the K712 for stuff such as rock/alternative rock/etc

imarceldoeidk, it's pretty subjective, but I think K712 is too bright for rock. from what I heard TH-X00 is nearly perfect for rock and metal.

madwolfaVery true. I sold my 712's. They were not matched well for rock. The X00 is perfect. I haven't listened to anything but my X00's since I got them in the first drop. They smooth out the highs, match well in the mids and add a nice boost in the bass.

SwampyTH-X00 and Grado sr60e (with L-cush pads), I'd say the Grado's are even better for metal... but not for comfort. If you want a good metal can for cheap get the Grado, I ended up selling my more expensive Grado's because I prefer the 60e.
