So i'm guessing if you buy this, it qualifies you into the fraternity of mega nerds... cause why in the world would you get the most bland keycaps for this much money, when the only people that would care are the other mega nerds~ there are way better keycaps for half the price.

SohamDamn, are you insecure or what. Not only do you gotta call people who like subdued keycaps "mega nerds" but you're not even going to take the time to do a quick google search on average GMK keyset prices and the pros of have GMK keycaps over something else?

Naaaa, as a mega nerd myself, i don't really care for calling nerds, mega nerds. I own dye-subbed keycaps, so, I am just stating truth that I find that I fall into...AKA.... category of mega nerd. It is just stating self-awareness of what this is. Be honest with yourself.

SohamJust be real man. There are way better looking keycaps that feel just as good, for less money. Period. Then again, if money is no object to you who cares. I sure don't care if you blow you're money away.

SohamTwo...If you think that these black GMK keys look that good, you must not have a very good sense in aesthetic and design. A two year old could designed this color scheme and look.

SohamThree... do you not realize that GMK is a already a keycap shape that exists. If a person/company were to produce it, they are using a GMK mold that pre-existed. So the only thing that special would be the material, color, and laser engraving/printing of keys. So then tell me, what make these particular keycaps worth so much? Besides you being able to show off to your nerd friends that you spent $100 on black keycaps, cause I sure as hell know that nobody else would care.

SohamOkay, first of all, you can edit your replies so you don't have to spam the thread. To address your points 1) I'm not even going to address that mega nerd comment. I'm an asshole to some people who I don't like, but I'm not going to go around calling people assholes because they need to "be honest with themselves." 2) White on Black does look good to some people, and for some color scheme, it goes very well. This is all opinionated, of course. Plenty of people who own subdued keysets like White on Black or Black on White also own other keysets that are more colorful, themed, or both. It's a matter of taste, the particular keyboard set up, and sometimes, even the particular desk + peripherals set up. The fact that you're only taking the simplicity and duality of the color way of this particular set into consideration, reflects YOUR poor sense of design and aesthetic. 3) GMK is not a profile, and everyone who is buying these caps are not buying "GMK profile", we all know it's a Cherry profile set. You want to know why they're worth so much? You said it yourself: material, color, DOUBLE SHOT keys (not laser engraved), among others. The sound profile is unique. The large keys have zero warping. The legends are printed to as near as perfection as you can get with keycaps. And you also touch on the fact that they are made in the original Cherry mold. That in itself has value that other molds do not. If you're buying a keyboard that costs $200+ just for the case, there's no point in sacrificing quality with the keycaps, the thing you actually touch when typing. Of course, the returns are diminishing as with literally ANYTHING else. Clearly, you do not like GMK keycaps. Simple, don't spend money on it. But for $100, your other options are JTK, which are very similar, but have more inconsistencies in legend printing, ePBT which are made from PBT and therefore have issues with warping and color limitations, and MaxKey, which are a different profile altogether. All of these keysets sit around the $100 price point, and all of them have subdued colorways, like White on Black, that cost around the same price. If you want to spend less on cheaper sets, that's your choice. But being an ignorant dick about people who want to purchase higher quality, specific keycaps, don't be that guy.

SohamWut? GMK is a German company that manufacturers keycaps. It isn't a profile. They're expensive because GMK offers the widest variety in color options, They have the most accurate/sharp legends, and they have the strictest quality controls. You never hear stories of warped keycaps/blurry misaligned legends with GMK. Not to mention that they use the Original Cherry molds. Every other company uses molds designed to replicate them. Just because this specific set isn't vibrant doesn't mean the company can sell it at a huge percentage less. It still has all the high standards you'd find in their other products.

SohamPlease show me keycaps that are cheaper and have better legends than gmk. Also all gmk sets go for around this price or slightly more, so you can go find a gmk set with a colorway you personally like lol.

YawnyzCool beans. It seems foolishness is relative. I do agree, after reading some comments I may be wrong about some facts. However, I think the general population would agree that it is foolish to spend that money on keycaps. Then again, money is subjective, some people do have lots of it, others don't. And again, for the general population that is not a mega nerd, yes, this would be a foolish buy.

SohamWell yeah! :) The general population would think it is foolish to spend $100-$200 on a fully complete keyboard alone, but that can be said about a lot of things.

SohamSub-Communities within Massdrop aren't the general public. This is a perfectly reasonable deal within the context. You're absolutely right that value is subjective. You think these are too expensive. The +700 people who have already purchased the set disagree.

SohamYou aren't paying for the keycaps as much as the GMK name. There's certainly identical sets (or very close to it) for less than half the price from other manufacturers, and you'll get 104 keys. As for quality, they probably aren't any better than any other brand. I have seen very few broken keycaps on any mechanical or membrane board in more than 30 years of computing, with the exception of chiclet keyboards on laptops. Those things are junk.
