Hey everyone, some fresh updates for you all. Update August 17th: Today is a good news and not so good news kind of update. The good news is that Signature Plastics has completed production of the keycaps for SA Godspeed and these are ready to ship to our warehouse next week! This means we'll be shipping them out to all of you a week or two after the August 24th date that was previously estimated, but we’re in the home stretch. The not so good news involves the packaging. While the packaging designs are complete, the manufacturing is still pending (this only takes 5 days), but more importantly the collating of the keycaps into the packages (a manual process where individual people put 1 keycap at a time into the plastic trays) is not complete. Signature Plastics is estimating collation will take 60 days, which to us is far too long a delay at this point. Given the options we've made the difficult decision to go with the standard Signature "plastic bag" packaging that we've all grown to love over our time in the hobby. It’s been used for the past decade or so for however many millions of keycaps so at least we know it’ll be ready to go within 2 weeks. While this is a bit of a downer in terms of delivery experience, we think delaying Godspeed an additional 6 weeks is the much more disappointing choice.  So that's where we're at today. While that’s getting bagged up we’re having a final sample sent to ourselves and Mito for one final accuracy check and once that’s confirmed we will move ahead with the bulk shipment. We'll be posting updates as we get more clarity on the exact date of arrival of the shipment to our warehouse, and subsequent dispatch of your orders, but right now the rough estimate for shipping to our warehouse is between September 1st and the 8th.

AlexPkHi, could we please get an update on this? It's now closer to mid- than early-September. Do you foresee yet another delay or are the bags shipping soon? I got the Mitospeed set, if that makes a difference. Thanks!

Hey everyone, Time for a well overdue update. There's a lot to unpack here so I'll try to be as detailed as possible. MiTo has been working with our manufacturing team to make his packaging designs into a reality. Our experience in this area historically has been extremely straightforward. With GMK we send designs over and they more or less look after the rest of it. For our own keycaps produced in China, sending designs plus a little bit of coordination gets us a finished product. We incorrectly thought the Godspeed packaging would be of similar complexity. For what we're trying to do with the Godspeed Keycap packaging, we've run into setback after setback. In particular, the printing choices that we've made to get something as close as possible to MiTo's designs has proven problematic. Below is a photo of the designs on our standard "Craft cardboard" that we use for our standard keycaps:
search
These samples were done and ready to go about 6 weeks ago... But we wanted MiTo's vision to be fully realized, so getting it on a white background shouldn't be so bad right? Excuse the potato resolution, but here's what we got on round 2:
search
Looking good, and pretty much good to print. We were ready to approve and get going when we found this problem:
search
Over time the ink on the corners would show signs of cracking- so we worked with the packaging manufacturer on different inks/pigments to get us something that would be more durable and maintain its pristine look over time. A couple of final approval rounds later, and we're finally done. Note that each of these rounds takes about a week (to produce, get it to the Drop employees in SF, and then conference call MiTo in Brazil and review with him, and then provide feedback). Also the cracking problem wasn't immediately apparent, it showed up many days after receiving the samples (we almost went to production before it revealed itself). So here we are, now 2 months into the process, and we have a final approved product that is being manufactured as we speak. Once that's done, it'll be about a week to get it to Sig Plastics, another 30 days for the keycap collating, 7 days to our warehouse, and finally shipped out to you. Yes folks, sadly, that puts our revised timeline sometime around December. Hope this post gives you a little insight into the nature of these delays, and we look forward to getting you a wonderfully packaged keycap set in the near future.

Kevin"Yes folks, sadly, that puts our revised timeline sometime around December." - @Kevin Who the hell is working with you at SigPlastics? We are almost four months past the revised timeline, EIGHT months past the original timeline. And the most communication we get every couple of weeks is, "They're working on it." What a joke, I'm embarrassed for you.

badibanJust a reminder - this situation is only happening for the people who opted in to receive the set in custom made boxes. And in order to opt in for the boxes the people interested agreed in having an unknown delivery timeline due to Signature Plastics inability to give one - it was clearly communicated that for people opting in for boxes the delivery date would be several months unknown. Signature Plastics is not a company logistically organized to ship sets in boxes, which is why they do it in zip lock bags. I will just not push for boxes with Signature Plastics made sets ever again. Zip lock bags it is. People kept screaming at me because of the zip lock bags (they are not even bad) we tried boxes and here we are. Screw boxes, I won't ever do this again. Its stressing to me and everyone waiting.
Hi everyone, We wanted to give everyone a clear picture of what is happening with this drop. The Godspeed SA Keycap Set drop took place in November and had a ship date of March 31, 2017. However, we have had consistent delays in production at the manufacturer’s end for this drop, which has resulted in a long delay.
The delays have been caused due to couple reasons. Signature Plastics quotations on the shipping time have been based on time frames that they have experienced in the past. However, due to the increase in demand of the SA keycap sets from the community and in general greater popularity of mechanical keyboards, keycap orders have increased considerably in volume. As most of the community is aware, the SA profile keycap production line for Signature Plastics is extremely impacted and any delays in the manufacturing of one keycap set results in a delay down the chain. All this being said, Signature Plastics is setting up more production lines and trying to alleviate the production issues as soon as possible. The biggest hurdle they are facing is hiring because there is significant training and quality control involved in making these drops happen for the community. The community will be seeing benefits of these actions, but they won’t be in the short term. So, what is happening with this drop? Since we are significantly delayed beyond the quoted shipping date, we cannot assume that community members who joined the drop still want to be a part of it per FTC regulations, and they have to opt back into the drop. We have a new shipping date of July 31 provided for this drop and our Community Support team will be sending emails to everyone detailing the next steps. Please keep an eye on your inboxes because If we do not hear back from you by the new shipping date, we’ll have to assume that you’d like to not be part of the drop anymore, and refund your money. As always, a big thank you to the community for making these community designed keycap sets possible. Please also see some of the latest production photos from Signature Plastics.

Following FTC rules is part of doing business in the USA (which isn't to say it doesn't suck sometimes, but there's not much Massdrop can actually do about it, short of closing up shop).
Feel free to complain about the quality of communication, though, if that makes you feel better. I'm not sure it'll change anything going forward, since the ostensibly poor communication about this particular drop seems to me to mostly be a "perfect storm" of smaller communication mistakes on the part of both MD and SP. Based on my own previous interactions with MD's CS, I suspect they've already improved their policies & procedures to ensure it doesn't happen again.

YanboWuGood thing I dug through two weeks of comments and found this. I was never emailed about this update and never received this new opt-in email. If I hadn't found this I would have assumed everything was good and would never have received my caps. This is honestly getting ridiculous, now I know this will definitely be my last drop and I will discourage others I know from participating in drops. This is simply not worth it.

Hey Everyone, Here's a very important update about the Godspeed SA Custom Keycaps. To catch people up on the situation, I'll quickly explain that keycap production is essentially completed, but the packaging is severely delayed. The quote/warning that we're getting from Signature Plastics is that it will take 60 days for them to take all of the keycap sets and pack them into the plastic trays. A week ago we made the decision to move ahead with shipping the keycaps in the typical way that Signature Plastics ships their keycaps, which is in a plastic bag. We did this with the expectation that the majority of users would prefer to get the keycaps sooner rather than later, and the loss of packaging wasn't a major concern since it was consistent with the experience that has always accompanied SA profile keycaps. I want to stress that as a company, we are indifferent to the two options and simply want our users to be satisfied. It appears that there is a significant group in the community suggesting that they would prefer to delay the product ship date, in order to accommodate the packaging. Understand that this delay is of an unknown duration (60 days is an estimate, and our experience is that estimates are usually overly optimistic). So moving forward, we're going to offer two options to all group-buy participants. They can EITHER opt to get their keycaps shipped in standard "bag" form, in early September, or they can wait to receive their keycaps in a plastic tray in a cardboard sleeve. Logistically, we'll need to hear from people soon in order to separate the groups of orders and coordinate the different packaging. We are giving people until August 28th to notify us of the option that they want via the google survey link below. If you do not respond via the survey, you will automatically be put into the (late, with packaging) group. Once you've filled out the survey, you will not be able to switch your option. We hope that these scenarios will allow people to weigh the relative advantages and decide what works best for them. https://forms.gle/JbYezEk49Zrj4cBQ9

I guess so they don't miss out on the box. To me it makes sense, it seems better if you default to an option that doesn't give you less contents (albeit, the box was really a gift from MiTo to us, but not everyone sees it that way). If they didn't respond and wanted the earlier shipping option, that's on them for not responding. I opted for the bags as well, super excited to get them ASAP!

We're in the process of changing around a handful of policies with our payment processing and sales policies. Very shortly, all payments will be collected when you purchase a product (consistent with how the rest of the industry works). We'll also be getting rid of the confusing option-adjustment "base price plus modifier" system that has been a legacy issue for years. Lastly, and more importantly, all drop studio products (like these keycaps, for example) are fully cancellable and refundable up until 30 days after the product ships. So, your money will no longer be collected and locked away for months. AND, if you don't like the keycaps after you've received them, you have the option to return them. Apologies for the abruptness of collecting people's money a few days early last night, the run is still live for 4 more days so if payment problems were triggered by the collection; there is a fair amount of time to sort it out. You can cancel/refund your purchase and re-order if its not to your liking, you can cancel/refund your order completely, or you can leave it as is.

KevinThis is disgusting. Not the changes (although you're killing the only benefits you had over your competitors - price drops and not locking away funds until a drop ends), but the lack of communication and breach of trust. Your own documentation clearly states that money will be taken at the end of a drop. This isn't the first time you've broken that trust and taken money we had not agreed to give you yet. And it will be the last time some of us will give you money.

KevinYour answer is not the answer to the problem now. and you should understand that your actions make people angry. What you are doing now is the worst excuse ever. While making complex excuses, the key to the problem is avoiding without mentioning it. You can refund it as if we're doing a good job! But it's a natural right and not a solution to the problem. DROP has broken the specified contract. and many people will be uncomfortable with the problem.(You easily say, 'I'll pay you back!' but problem with credit cards is not that simple) What I was most disappointed about was,You're very proud to cause trouble. as if I had just done my job naturally. I haven't seen you explain or contact me about this matter yet.(Usually, if there is a problem like this, all the payers will contact you.) It seems to me that your actions were scheduled and that's against the contract. I ask you, have you broken the contract and contacted or apologized to the people affected by this problem? What responsibilities will you take if the card's money is withdrawn on a different day from the scheduled payment date and the person whose other payment is not completed? (I am included in this matter.)

If not Massdrop/@YanboWu, @MiTo do you have any updates? Seeing the reassurances that communication will be fixed, only to go dark on us again is quite disheartening... Can someone just explain what is going on?
If anyone wants to call Signature Plastics (tel: 360-366-5044), I think you can refer to Massdrop order #5014310. I noticed it on one of the pictures they posted, written on the cardboard.

I looked back at my post as I was confused at how you thought I said Massdrop is scamming anyone. I'm not sure how you think I'm "act[ing] like they're going to use THIS drop as the one where they take everyones [sic] money and shut the site down." I'm not sure how you think I'm "fearful of Massdrop stealing [my] money and not giving [me] [my] keycaps" as if I were, you are correct - I would have cancelled.
Thank you for calling me "pretty stupid" for trusting Massdrop to follow through. I believe they will follow through, one way or another: I will either get my keycaps or they will refund my money. I do not, and have not, expected or said anything different.
As stated - I agree with you that we should not be calling SP. It serves no purpose to help.
Also as stated - it was the FTC that stepped in and gave Massdrop the deadline to provide the keycaps or refund everyone.
Even by opting to stay in the drop, I'm still not guaranteed I'll ever see the keycaps. If I don't, I will get my money back. Everyone understands this, but everyone would still PREFER to get the keycaps.
You ask: "Otherwise, what are you complaining about?" - How about the fact that communication has been bad on this drop? Sure, they've finally given a new date and we're not past it yet, even people who aren't condescending "calendar expert[s]" can see that. - How about that fact that the FTC got involved? The FTC doesn't get its jollies from jumping into random transactions. Someone reported Massdrop and/or SP on this - I don't know who - and after the FTC looked into the details, they decided they should step in. That's a serious concern! - In the end, I truly believe the problems are mostly due to bad planning - which is a great thing to complain about as well! Hopefully someone at Massdrop and/or SP has/will learn from this or more people will take your advice to heart and " [s]peak with [their] wallet." - And now I'm complaining about you complaining about me complaining and saying I'm not allowed to complain! Shall we continue this fruitlessly?
Hopefully we can agree that we all want the keycaps. Hopefully we can agree this has been handled poorly. Hopefully we can agree calling SP directly is not the correct course of action.
I am refusing to attack you personally, and I'm sorry you feel the need to attack me. Have a great day!

JeremySouthardAlso as stated - it was the FTC that stepped in and gave Massdrop the deadline to provide the keycaps or refund everyone.
The FTC didn't jump in. These were FTC regulations, that Massdrop has to adhere to, especially as they grow. This clarification is from talks with Massdrop personnel on the Slack. People are assuming that they were cornered by the FTC or something- no, it was just a precaution as the size of Massdrop becomes larger, and there is the possibility of additional scrutiny.
Hey everyone, we are happy to report production has completed on the SA Godspeed keycap sets.
Our warehouse will be receiving the sets this week, and for those of you that have already responded affirmative to staying in the drop, we are planning on having your sets sorted and shipped by June 30th.
For community members that have not yet responded to our inquiry - your orders will be cancelled on June 29th if we don't hear from you by that time.
For those of you who would like to stay in the drop, it is recommended that you confirm on your transaction page that an additional option was added. If it's marked as No reply received - order will cancel after June 29th and you would prefer to stay in the drop, please reach out to community support immediately and someone will help you out.
We'll be collecting responses between today and June 29th, and these confirmed orders will ship out of the warehouse after June 30th after everyone has had a chance to respond back to us.
Please let me know if there is anything confusing about what has been stated above and I'll clarify. Thanks again for everyone's patience while this is sorted. We can't wait for these keys to show up in the wild!

YanboWuHey Yanbo - is there anyway you can get ahold of a cockpit set for me? I ordered the novelties, and thought I had the compatible keys to make the board work. I have been looking all over for someone trying to sell to no avail, I'd love to put in an extra order with Signature Plastics. I can't imagine that they've shut down production on everything soon as this order was finished. I'd pay upwards of $150 for the full cockpit set! :-P

maxfMD won't ever sell directly to someone post drop ending/shipping, literally haven't heard of it happen under any circumstance.
You'll have to browse /r/mechmarket or wait for a capatoa sale.
Also, it's pretty easy to imagine that they've shut down production on Godspeed, with the SA queue as tight as it is it is almost certain that they've moved onto the next SA set in line since they were already ~3 months behind on this one.

First of all I'd like to thank everyone for supporting this drop, even those few who dropped out, cause otherwise the keycap set wouldn't even exist.
As the person responsible for the technical specifications of the keycap set, my powers are limited and I unfortunately don't know much about the logistics issues that the manufacturer faced.
I was told by MD agents that some phone calls happened and the situation seems to be resolved. A positive update will most likely be released to you very very soon.
What I can tell is that both the manufacturer and Massdrop are serious corporations, you can be sure that the funds are safe and that the keycaps are getting done as we requested.
Two unfortunate things happened here: Signature Plastics' delays and lack of more frequent updates from Massdrop's logistics. You can be sure that I'm making clear to Massdrop that you guys are disappointed with the lack of communication and I believe this will improve for future projects. This is not the norm for the projects we have done so far and for all the support I get from you guys, I think you deserve much better.
Again, thanks a lot for all of you who joined and I ask just a little more patience. The waiting days are almost over and I think you'll enjoy the keycaps once they arrive. I know that delays suck and I apologize for that, hopefully all logistics will improve from this experience and this situation will change for the next drops.

I've been following this drop/concept since your first post on Instagram about it. Thanks for the opportunity for us to own, IMO, such a pricelessly well designed set of caps.
