42mm case width isn't too bad, and it is ostensibly a pilots watch so it's not gonna be the smallest thing in the world

47 mm is lug-to-lug, i.e. height. Actually this means it is shorter than a lot of 38-40 mm watches despite being 42 mm. So it wears small.
