Many of you seemed to know that this version of the ErgoDox was not complete at the time of the drop, but most of us thought it was ready to go, and just a matter of logistics, not development. I think that's why there's such a range of responses from "hey, this is cool, I expected the delay" to "this is a big surprise and disappointment." I just re-read the description, and couldn't glean even a hint that this thing was still in development, and the June date was at all risky, but as you say "Welcome to Massdrop."

dylanmcYes, this is more frustrating to me than the delay. The description doesn't mention that oh, by the way, we haven't even built a prototype of this thing yet. In fact it implies that the product has already been developed ("We've applied this process to the ErgoDox and constructed an entirely new circuit board and case"). If I'd known I was kickstarting a product that no one had actually made I would have been more reluctant to throw down $200.
This is my first group buy on Massdrop but of the people I know who have joined others, only one has ever received a product on time. So welcome to Massdrop indeed.

karawThis was my first drop too, but I've joined two others since this one, and they have both shipped on time.
In any case, the description does include a disclaimer about the ship time being an estimate. Also, HaTaa's early comments in the discussion made it clear that this was still under development. One thing I have learned about MD: ALWAYS read the discussion before committing to a drop.

dylanmcThis is one of the problems with the way Massdrop goes about conveying information. Too much gets posted in the discussion that ought to be included in the description. There are often very informative posts made by those running the drop that are promptly buried in a popular group buy unless you go digging for them. I'm among those who knew the Infinity Ergodox was still in development and expected delays, and honestly thought it had said so in the description. Having just re-read it now I realize that wasn't the case.
I really wish Massdrop had an option for some sort of page with additional information or specifications where information like this could be posted and updated. Or even just a summary page of the important discussion posts made by drop leaders. Because the main description page is often more of a sales pitch with the finer details to be found elsewhere.

karawIf you'd interacted with the guys involved on the Infinity drop (the 60%) you'd have found out that they were developing it. It's a bit more complex than a 60% since there's 2 halves (yay signalling!), but on the other hand, you're getting a vastly improved/more flexible ergodox with a much better controller. So, while the exact boards in question haven't been mass produced, you're not kickstarting a completely unproven product since there IS quite a bit of re-use. The kid who did the Infinity 60% pcb is using the same controller to do the Infinity Ergo. The kid who is _currently_ working on the firmware for the Infinity 60% (HaaTa) is also the one developing the firmware for the Infinity Ergo (side by side). http://kiibohd.com/ for more info.

infowolfeReally, I'd rather have my possessions made by professional product development teams than by "kids".

yiriInput club isn't made of kids. All of the members of the team that have both made the infinity ergodox, and the infinity, are technically knowledgeable. Haata has even written a couple different articles for massdrop, and probably owns one of the largest keyboard collections out there.

yiriSo how old is Haata? he/she is a kid? What age does infowolfe consider someone to be a kid? Personally I'd say a kid is below 18
