This is a ridiculously overpriced kit. Radioshack (known for price gouging) sells higher quality irons for far less than this. I'm sure it will perform just fine, but i use a $25 30W iron, and it has never disappointed me.

DylanDaileyRadio shack irons are the stereotype for the worst irons you can get. And it is for a good reason. What could possibly make you think one is higher quality than this?

SuperBobKingSimply put, arrogant ignorance.

tjcaustinAnd what exactly is so ignorant about it? There probably are some incredibly cheap irons that are worse than a radio shack iron, but radio shack is the stereotype which is why I specified.
Was it the part asking what would make him think radio shack irons are higher quality than Edsyn? Because that would contradict most of your other posts.
If you are going to go around name-calling you should at least say why.

SuperBobKingYou misunderstand, I'm not calling you ignorant. I'm saying the claim that a radio shack iron being higher quality than this is based in ignorance. Basically, I'm agreeing with you and saying why I think people claim crap irons are better than non-crap irons that look the same but cost more.

SuperBobKingThe fact that a good quality iron heats up quickly to the desired temp, and more importantly, that it has a high thermal capacity tip. Not much to it. Heck, you can build your own pretty easily/ There's no reason you need to pay more than $50 to get an excellent fixed temp iron; they're ridiculously simple devices. Better yet, get a $10 one and put a high Q tip on it. Variable temp stations would be a slightly different story, but you can still get excellent ones for roughly $50
