This is pretty dang cool. I liked the original Aether quite a lot when I heard it at Canjam. A universal with the accessories this comes with is quite a good deal. This is the first IEM I've seen to come stock with Spinfit, Symbio W and Comply. Comply isn't so good, but it's got a following. The other two are some of the best tips out there on a sound quality basis. Too bad Drop hasn't seen fit to set up EU distribution yet. C'mon guys, there are plenty of fulfillment companies that can do this for you.

micahjroseI disagree on comply part. It's comfortable. Sure spinfits and symbio is good but still. Foam comply still has the comfort crown

Brandon123Comply reduces treble and warms bass. It is the worst performing tip from a technical perspective. If your IEM has anemic midbass and harsh treble, Comply can help. I also find it less comfortable than silicone (the tips are too long). For me its main benefit is improved isolation, but I can get that from Dekoni Bullets, which don't degrade sound quality.

micahjroseThat's a big general statement that isn't true across the board. It all comes down to foam density (just like headphones), the inner stem material, does it have a wax guard, shape and length (cone vs sphere), etc. And for Comply, they have a ton of options. Although really, any tip is going to change the sound, just whether or not you like the differences is just personal preference.

jaydunndidditCone and sphere make a difference to fit, not to sound quality given the same seal, in my experience. I've tried a lot of Comply and the signature sound is rolled off treble and warmed midbass, which happens to not be my preference on most IEMs. Dekoni are sonically better to my ear but more difficult to compress.

micahjroseThey do because of their different lengths. All the comfort tips are short and stubby while the other is a thinner and a good bit longer. That does make a big difference. Same with using a silicone tip vs a triple flange - insertion depth makes noticeable changes. Tyll has also done measurements on this and came to the conclusion they have a negligible effect on FR. A lot has to do with people putting them in their ears wrong and smooshing the foam over the sound tube. Unless you're using one of the sport foams, they shouldn't have any effect on FR when you select a compatible tip. But hey, to each their own. The Dekoni were OK, they weren't as soft and left my ears a bit more sore and scratchy vs all my others. Price is good on them, though.

jaydunndidditI'm a Tyll fan but Comply is not anywhere close to neutral. My observations on Comply sound are pretty universal. Unless you are jamming Comply tips way the heck up into your ears like a triple flange, insertion depth will cause negligible difference in sound with them if you have a proper seal. The round ones are not much shorter than the Isolation tips. I've tried isolation series and the TSX type with and without filters. The foam changes the sound, the wax guard, not really. Totally agree that all tips have an effect on sound, I just don't like the Comply house sound with most pairings. I'm curious about Symbio foam only tips, but haven't tried them yet.

micahjroseThe foam tips just don't work for you, that's all. In my case, the foam tips are the best choice, and when paired with the Aether R, they radically improve the quality of high frequencies. Each has its own ear anatomy. I have not seen anything more convenient than Comply tips.
