Adding/Including Memories
I lost my dad last year (2023) and have been finding ways to include keepsakes/memories in my workstation. I've dabbled here and there with doing small woodworking projects and attempted a wrist rest from a piece of oak I picked up with him from my great uncles wood shop. I milled it to fit a 60% keyboard as I hadn't decided what keyboard I would be using it on and thought that's where most of my wrist would be in contact even typing on a full keyboard. I gave it a torched/burn appearance as I really was lost in what to do. I found an old shell casing from going hunting with my dad in my hunting pack and decided to imbed it into the end of the wrist rest so it would just have a little difference and a small story behind it as well. I have other things around my workstation from family and friends, but it just feels a little more special having worked on it and adding something small that has a memory for me to it. (Purple was my grandmothers favorite color and I have kinda now...

pretty sure the whole EDC thing started with the firearms community.
EDC is pretty broad and I saw more of it in the knife and flashlight community in the decade prior.
and the thing under your nightstand isn't a proper safe...a proper safe doesn't fit in a backpack...even what you imagine as a safe is most likely only rated as a security container.
EDC comes from the preparedness community/survivalist, which was born out of a subset of the firearms community back in the 70's and more so in the 80's and 90's.....think soldier of fortune guys... the whole idea of guys having a EDC predates the internet by a wide margin...i'm 99% certain it started with the gun community and concealed carry guys discussing their carry guns and what else they have with them in the club houses of the shooting ranges....
the flashlight community itself has really only been around for a few decades....before LEDs and the rest were the norm, flashlights weren't nearly as discussed as they are now, you just bought a maglight and called it good...lol...thank god those days are over...the knife guys are pretty much interchangeable with the gun guys but the knife community used to be quite a bit smaller than the firearms community....it's really blown up with the rise of anti-gun laws and sentiments.
i'm actually curious as you seem to have just kinda gotten into this, but what do you think EDC is and where it came from? ...do you think it was around before?
EDC stands for 'Every Day Carry' meaning the essentials you have on you on any given day; wallet, keys, knife, phone, pen, etc. If you have a reference to the actual term 'EDC' that predates the internet, I'd love to hear it, as it sounds more like you're referring to 'prepper'. In terms of EDC, firearms really only enter a rotation if you happen to have a CCW, or you're someone in a civilian profession that already has a dedicated rig to carry such a thing (which wouldn't fit in any similar case already on the market).
You can be as certain as you like as to the origins of EDC, but it always started as "Wallet/Keys" and then "Wallet/Keys/Phone." Sorry, but very few carry a firearm on an everyday basis.
Hey, nice logical fallacies in assuming I'm new to this and only old guys from a bygone era actually know what EDC is.
I’d also agree that these days it’s used simply to describe whatever you usually carry in your pockets. Especially for us people who live in what an American would call «the rest of the world».
As a gun owner, my firearms are kept unloaded in a proper safe, not ready for use in an open plywood box, but that’s probably just me.
just how long do you think people have been carrying phones in their pockets you moron. lol.
you pseudo-intellectual types are funny, i was trying to have a conversation with you but instead you get all butthurt...think what you want, it doesn't effect me, stupid people rarely do. Ciao. :)
lol, i'm fucking losing it over imaging people walking around with payphones in their pockets....or even those old bricks from the 80's that practically no one had, walking like a pirate with that shit in your pocket.
