Seems interesting, but what makes these pop out compared to other pair with better bass? I listen to a lot of bass heavy music. I'm really interested as I heard these were a good pair from a very good source, I've never tried Massdrop headphones so maybe I'm lost and this is the right place to start?
mrsaintjif you want really good bass I can make some recommendations based on your price range. I love detailed bass and know the best (mostly made by fostex).
170 dollars - Fostex t50rp mk3 - fucking glorious headphones. bit heavy, they also need a pad replacement from stock but otherwise are amazing.
200 - Sony mdr 1a or mdr 1z they are alright in build quality but not best. comfort is good, soundstage is okay and bass is good. decent recommendation
400 - Fostex Th-X00 - Great all-rounder, excellent bass.
450 - ThX00 Purpleheart -similar
500-800 ZMF headphones (any based on preference).
Also possibly alphas but I personally don't like them.
600 - Th-600 sub bass that will wreck your ears. highs can be fatiguing on certain tracks, mids a bit recessed.
1000used-1200new TH-900 holy jesus these are amazing for EDM and bass focused music in general.
1500 - th900 with detacheables
These are of course the favorites I've heard when it comes to bass though there may be more out there.
EDIT: I may just be a fostex fanboy but everyone writes glowing reviews on them ;-)
mrsaintjThat is exactly why these headphones were created and pushed. The collaboration is showing to be an entry point for people to get a foot in the door and begin their audio journey. If I haven't had higher end midfi headphones I'd have jumped on this too. They're neutral, without the bass boost, but open back. Think of it as the first time you hear higher quality sets. This is that exposure. I remember my first time and first set, HD598s. The open back was amazing.
I too used to enjoy bass. It's the coloring that you look for because sometimes neutral gets boring. From what it seems like, these are a great first set.
Though it's tiny, it manages to power even high ohm headsets with amazing accuracy. It works great with the drop usb-c to usb-c and my Phillips shp-9600. Soon enough I'll be using the Akoustyx...
I have an external amplifier with no integrated DAC and I only have an xduo xa10 as a dac/amp can I use the xduo xa10 as a dac only with an external amplifier?
So I bought the HD6xx a few weeks back and when I finally got the packages i got some Noir 99. ever happened to any of u guys and how did it get resolved
