What is SpaceFN and why you should give it a try
The SpaceFN concept - setting up your space key as a layer switch when held - is probably one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby. Let me explain how it works. My SpaceFN article on kbd.news made some rounds recently - quite surprisingly given the age of this concept. This piece you're reading is a condensed version of the full post. If you're left with unanswered questions, you'll most likely find the info you're looking for in the original write-up. On my imaginary top list of the most useful keyboard features, tweaks and hacks, SpaceFN would deserve a podium finish for sure. But what makes it so special? In short: SpaceFN is easy to implement, easy to learn, costs nothing, can be used with any keyboard, and can improve your productivity instantly. I will list its benefits below, but can state right at this point that the SpaceFN concept, setting up your space key as a layer switch when held, is clearly one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby....

If he sounds impatient, it's because you're being kind of an ass, esp. just now, when you tried to turn his words against him while completely ignoring their context. His point was that you profess to speak for every mechanical keyboard enthusiast in disliking RGB even as you discount the reality that (1) I:C spent years doing this in the first place and (2) massive numbers of the K-Type have sold already.
If you're not interested, that's understandable. Nothing's wrong with your prefs, but the same is true of everyone else's.
1. Flexibility is a huge part of why this keyboard is exciting.
2. For those that don't want RGB, turn it off. For those that do (or want to experiment), this is an incredible option that should be celebrated.
3. At the same time, having hot-swapping as a marquee feature without additional sets of light pipe switches readily available isn't ideal. That shouldn't be seen as a controversial statement, either, because...
4. As long as said switches eventually are available, all is golden.
But perhaps I should have just asked @OverKill directly in the first place: Are there plans for an additional drop with the full suite of light pipe enabled switches, or just the Halos? Thanks. :-)
You might have been a bit overboard with your statement: "His point was that you profess to speak for every mechanical keyboard enthusiast in disliking RGB"
Unlike TelFIRE and yourself (in your last comment), I didn't speak for anyone but myself. Allow me to quote myself with added emphasis: "A massive number of me doesn't care about RGB and would rather pay less for swapable switches."
I'm here because I'm interested. And since I'm interested, I'd like even more "configuration options" that hit more of *my* buttons, just like about everybody on earth regarding any product. Since I can't recognize the Internet anymore, is free speech still a thing, or has it been overrun by flaming ?
Don't get me wrong, I know and acknowledge people love their fancy colors, but I like customization (albeit a different one) myself, and if a K-Type would ever be released without said RGB, I'd be quite happy (as would my wallet). Hell, I'd even go for a barebone one, as it has been asked here and there (meaning: no switches, no caps). I get that being the first release of K-Type, one can't ask for too much, but I'm worried that any further possible variation would be well into 2018, and that's far away.
Ah well, I didn't intended for this to be a wall'o'text (of sorts).
@bcbishop : sorry for derailing your question :/
Even ChitownM2 could argue that speaking for a "large number of mech key enthusiasts" isn't speaking for every enthusiast. But in context, s/he did seem to imply that a large number was actually the majority.
BTW: I appreciate the considerate tone of your reply.
