These speakers are quite beautiful and would be worth it for the gorgeous finish. For my home desktop system, I bought LSR305s from Massdrop, added an LSR310s sub, obtained a new HD6XX from someone who decided that he didn't need his, bought a Schiit Jotunheim with DAC, wired it all together with ZY 10' balanced headset cable and Gotham Audio XLR cables, and finally added a remote power control to make it easy to turn all the powered gear on and off from one button. The system sounds wonderful. I am happy with the LSR305's since LSR308's are much too large to place on my large desk and the 305s sound great with the subwoofer providing bass extension. Only one first world problem remains: I don't research and buy gear anymore because this is an endgame solution, at least for the foreseeable future.

SparqxI truly admire someone who can put a stop to the audio madness for the search of the allusive extra audio purity. It's an expensive hobby that never seems to fufill your desire when the only thing you wanted to do is to enjoy music.

MusicIsGreatWell said, brother! It should be all about enjoying the listening experience. There is so much information about components out there that it seems to take forever to figure out how to put together a good system without overlooking something. For me, assembling an excellent system turned into a time-consuming research project. In the end, I decided to make an investment for a long-term solution that should last for years, and I just wanted to share it so others can benefit from knowing that this system sounds great and integrates well.

SparqxI'm looking to replicate your EXACT setup, though I don't see how you made it work with the Schiit. Given that it has only a single XLR out for the speakers, how exactly do you properly integrate the 310 sub?

ArtemMoshkovichHi Artem! I just discovered your inquiry made weeks ago, and sorry I missed responding as I really don't need to buy more gear so rarely visit Massdrop anymore. The Schiit Jotunheim has dual balanced outputs on the back of the unit, which connect to the LSR310s subwoofer (it is designed to take both channels), where it controls the low frequency crossover and pulls out that signal. Then use balanced cables to connect from the subwoofer to the LS305 speakers. Interesting design, and it works fine and is simple, as long as you like the subwoofer crossover settings. If you want more fine-grained control for how much bass goes to the sub at various frequencies, you will have to use your own crossover. I keep the headphone plugged into the front jack all the time, as there is no switch to switch between the speakers and the headphone, which is a very minor problem, considering how well the Jotunheim has been working.

SparqxThanks for the confirmation, Sparqx! My setup is as follows now: Jotunheim to Massdrop JBL305 vs pair of XLR cables + balanced Audeze LCD-2 Classic via the front XLR output on the Jotunheim.
I feel the entire package is just about at my end game, save for the LSR310S.
As an owner of that complete setup, what are your thoughts on the sub as the "missing piece." Did it complete change the experience of the JBL listening setup? If so, how dramatically?

ArtemMoshkovichHi Artem. I just saw your question, and it's over two years, sorry! I love my LSR310S, but it's not essential for a desktop computer setup. It totally depends on what you are listening to. For movies with lots of special effects, it can be quite dramatic. For music that has been mastered with lots of bass, it can also be dramatic. Games, too, but if you are using headphones and a microphone, the sub not as important. It took some time to get the cross-over frequency and speaker levels adjusted to my liking, and now that I'm used to the settings, I don't even think about it anymore. I have an RF-controlled on/off plug so I can easily turn the three JBL powered speakers on and off with a single press of a remote for convenience. True to my earlier statement, I haven't needed to buy audio equipment as this has been a very dependable setup.
