I'm a side sleeper and it's great if another person is on the pad. If not, you can touch the ground in certain places.

What would be best down sleeping set up for this pad, recommendation on double sleeping bag or two mummy sacks?

Both would work just fine. I use mine with both setups and are equally great.

Its pretty great to get warm together in a double sleeping bag, much more comfortable than two mummy bags. To get the best of both worlds, I would recommend getting two mummy sacks that are compatible to zip together! That's what I've done and it works great.

My gf and I prefer a double quilt. If you're a bag user, I suggest using it opened up like a quilt, but the feet could be a problem. Really a temperature dependant question.

For car camping whatever is the most comfortable. Backing this would be a bit heavy but if you split your carry with the other person sharing the pad with you, it’s relatively low weight.
