What is SpaceFN and why you should give it a try
The SpaceFN concept - setting up your space key as a layer switch when held - is probably one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby. Let me explain how it works. My SpaceFN article on kbd.news made some rounds recently - quite surprisingly given the age of this concept. This piece you're reading is a condensed version of the full post. If you're left with unanswered questions, you'll most likely find the info you're looking for in the original write-up. On my imaginary top list of the most useful keyboard features, tweaks and hacks, SpaceFN would deserve a podium finish for sure. But what makes it so special? In short: SpaceFN is easy to implement, easy to learn, costs nothing, can be used with any keyboard, and can improve your productivity instantly. I will list its benefits below, but can state right at this point that the SpaceFN concept, setting up your space key as a layer switch when held, is clearly one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby....

We have an update on the production status of the Massdrop x MiTo DSA Legacy Custom Keycap Set. As many of you know, two distinct color schemes were offered: the iconic PuLSE and the all new exclusive Rush color scheme. The classic black, cyan, orange and lime color tones easily translated to ABS plastic, but nailing the purple and pink tones featured in the Rush color scheme has been challenging. We wanted to give everyone a heads up that this challenge may cause a delay in our estimated ship date.
MiTo received two rounds of color samples in Brazil, and the color scheme is still not matching what he envisioned. Because of that, new techniques and color matching procedures are taking place right now, in order to ensure an exact match to his vision and the product designed. Here are some photos of the color samples that were rejected:
Once the finalized colors are up to the standards we are all used to, MiTo will go ahead and authorize manufacturing.
We’ll provide an update in mid March with the latest information.
Thanks for the update, by the way...
In lieu of the occasion I'd like to apologize to the community for this delay and reassure that we will keep working hard in order to deliver exactly what you're hoping for. We are communicating and working closely in order to sync all parts involved so we can achieve the quality envisioned.
When you participate in drops where I'm involved there's a high degree of trust, about my judgement regarding colors, legends, finish and overall quality of the keycap sets. These standards haven't changed and never will, as new drops are being offered, new lessons are being learned. As I pursue new designing routes and more exciting techniques, new challenges will come. The patience and support from the community mean a lot and it really pushes me forward.
It's very disappointing to delay the anticipation for brand new keycaps and I apologize for that. But rest assured - delivery has been delayed because I think you deserve (much) better colors and I'm working on that.
I hope you understand, new samples will be coming my way soon and I will make sure to communicate updates both here and on my journal - mitormk.com too.
Thank you very much for the unbelievable support and enthusiasm.
Sincerely, Ace
Hope I am proven otherwise, but we all know how these things go, eh?
Slow and frustrating hobby to be sure...
Continued silence (in this case about 48 hours since my previous reply) doesn't mean I'm retaining information nor it means that the answer is yes or no, it simply means that I don't have a concrete answer yet.
Personally, I don't see any plausible reason for the Pulse/Solace color way to be delayed since it features the exact same colors from the SA version. I authorized manufacturing the moment this drop began. However I'm not entirely sure about how the manufacturer operates when multiple color schemes are featured in a single order, as I don't recall a siamese group buy like this taking place with the manufacturer in the past, ever.
Let's remain positive and hope for a favorable answer, once I have concrete word I will of course post here first hand.
Thanks for all you do, man. Sincerely appreciate it.
It is a frustrating experience that unfortunately will take place some times, but as long we endure it together with proper communication, transparency and patience I believe it's gonna be easier for everyone.
Once again I apologize for this setback, we are trying and will make these keycaps the right way. Please stand by for the next piece of update, I hope to have positive news to share.
I didn't participate in this particular drop but I just wanted to say that I really respect you for that attitude towards your projects, and it's also why I had no problem committing to something as ambitious as Laser. I look forward to seeing how these sets turn out though :)
