Swan881Hi Swan881, there are many ways to tan leather. Vegetable tanning, means just that, using tannins and other ingredients found in vegetable matter, such as tree bark, wood, leaves, fruits & roots. This process takes a much long time, and depending on the desired look, the leather stays in vats or drums for 2 weeks or longer in these ingredients. Time equals money in manufacturing, so this process is much more expensive, however the results are the leather is supple, lasts longer then other methods & is the right choice for your health or environment. Please let me know if i can help with any other questions. Cheers ! A
