CKRTYou can use software to compensate for that. There's a few hitches but for the most part it works fine. I use this one: http://www.nelsonpires.com/software/dimmer/

It kind of overlays a translucent black image across the whole screen, but some things like right click context menus appear above it sometimes.
douchecanoeIt had a way to lower the brightness already, but no way to lower the backlight level. Does "Dimmer" do something to control backlight modulation or something? If not, I doubt it will be any more effective than the regular brightness controls.

Of course, this is all assuming the lack of backlight adjustment is still an issue. Perhaps they fixed it?
CKRTI just purchased - and returned this monitor because of this issue. This monitor's minimum usable brightness is brighter than most monitors' maximum brightness. Trying to lower it in any way essentially results in unacceptable contrast and color balance. It's a real mess. I'm happier with a 24" Ultrasharp than I was with this 27" Monoprice. If you intend to use your monitor at night without overkill room lighting, this monitor isn't the one for you. During the day, with sunlight pouring in, it's fine.

Even with flux, the brightness was really distracting at night. I honestly wouldn't even bother with this monitor if brightness is even a slight concern.
