This will be my first fountain pen. Just a question though, would I require thicker paper to write with?

EclipseSkyeDepends on the ink. The ink that comes with the pen, probably not. If you buy a bottle of another brand of ink like Noodlers or Private reserve, you might find it bleeds and feathers more readily on cheap paper.
Rhodia and Clairefontain paper is the safest bet if you find this is an issue, but there are plenty of fountain pen friendly notebooks out there.

EclipseSkyeMine worked with two different inks on worst paper you can find without bleed-through.
