I purchased the Princeton Tec Sync in December 2014 for my February 2015
Appalachian Trail section hike Georgia to Tenn. Now that I have had the
Princeton Tec Sync LED Headlamp for over 2 years and still working like new.
I camp 120+ days a year and always use this as my main lamp and bring 3
extra AAA batteries just in case replace is required. I have gotten about
85 hours of normal use (low light setting, turn on/off when needed) without
replacing batteries. I use the red light to preserve as much of my night
vision as possible when hiking at night. You had better use the red light
in shelters so you don't blind anyone or disrupt someone's sleep or you
will hear about it. I don't sleep in shelters anymore because of snoring,
farting, belching and talking while I sleep....I sleep in my Zpacks Triplex
and get as much sound sleep as possible. This headlamp is well designed
and functions well with the rotary on/off dial switch. I also use Lithium
AAA batteries in it as they function better than alkaline for extreme
temps -40 F. It is water resistant, and is not waterproof and have used
it in rain/snow and functions well. The head strap is soft and comfortable
on my head. It provides 150 lumens on bright setting which I only use
when needed and keep it on low light settings provides longer battery life.
It may not be the very best headlamp on the market but functions as a
described and I love this head lamp and recommend it.
EZ_livingEZ_Living, The rotary dial starts in the off position, then click once to Red Light mode,
continue clicking thru the other settings from low light to high beam lights.
Hope this helps!
Survivalist7That's correct with one subtle addition. It goes from lock, red, off, low flood, high flood, spot, high flood and spot. So from off you can go back to red or forward for all the white light combinations. It is simple and lightweight and also not regulated wich is a plus for me as it will not just die on you it fades over time.
