Works as advertised! I really like the DSP presets in the app that we can choose from to easily adjust EQ. The buttons aren't immediately intuitive, but very easy to learn. I find it's a little buggy with the lights, but luckily Qudelix sends out updates pretty frequently, and it's easy to update the firmware using the Chrome app.
I have both the Qudelix 5K and a BTR15, and while the functionality is similar, I definitely prefer the software of the Qudelix. the BTR's little screen is nicee sometimes though when i want to check my volume level.
I've had the Qudelix-5K Bluetooth USB DAC/Amp for a couple of days, and I am impressed with the sound quality, volume, and app. It is great for listening to music on the move, and due to the EQ presets can be used with a wide variety of headphones, including ones with sound signatures that require getting used to.
The only issue I've run into is range. I have a number of devices on the opposite end of the room from my sofa (~10-12 ft). If I sit on the couch, the sound will cut out. I can reduce this by lowering the sample rate through the app, and by placing my cell phone away from the Qudelix-5K. Neither of these is convenient, particularly since tinkering around with the app likely involves handling their cell phone which can make it harder to troubleshoot the issue. For the sake of comparison, I've had a pair of Sony WF-1000XM4s, which I have not irregularly worn into other rooms with fewer issues.
Most enjoyable little device I have ever owned.. makes the Fiiobtr3k look like a joke!
The number of features... my goodness this device has everything an audiophile on a budget needs.
The DSP EQ is so fun to play with, sounds INCREDIBLE and can add character to any end device (speakers or headphones)
The battery life is great, in my opinion even when using everything at max. No concerns there.
I use this on my laptop as a DAC / EQ, which feeds into a JDS Labs 3 band EQ (for a lil more juice, ya know?) into a Schiit Vali 2++ and out to either my HD 600's, or my Fosi TB10D which goes to my Micca RB42's.
Well, this little device sounds better than my JDS Labs DAC and does so much more!!!!
How anyone could not rate this device 5 stars.... where else can you get this much?
Crazy Bluetooth range (~100ft or more for my phone), crazy bluetooth compatibility and quality,
DAC filter selection, built in headphone specific EQ presets (both my HD 600's and BLON BL-03's are on the list)
You can change just about everything. From charging behaviour, input priority, mic behaviour (mic is the only weak point, but still 100% acceptable, just not a strength), the list goes on....
Not to mention that the EQ selection stays in memory so you don't have to have it connected to the app for it to function.
5 stars, 5 stars, 5 stars.
I run my JVC HA-FD01s on this. There are loads of preset EQs made by the community that sound great, or you can make your own. It gets hearing damage loud without cracking or distortion, and the companion app lets you know a whole load of nerd stuff and the basics. It's awesome. The construction feels sturdy and well-built, the clip lets me put it somewhere convenient while I'm working. There's also some extra features including the "mic pass-thru" feature which lets you listen to what's going on around you. It's a little sensitive, so maybe don't put it on clothes. I'm very happy to report that that is literally the ONLY gripe I have with this.
The clip is unbalanced, you decide if you want it to flare your pocket and interfere with the swing of your arms as you walk or if you'd rather it clip it more comfortably where it will reliably come unclipped in minutes and yank on your chord as it falls towards the ground.
Soundwise its unremarkable, with 4.8 stars I expected so much more. I have fiddled with it and used several earphones with it and its just not worth mentioning anything about the sound. The AutoEQ was missing both my IEMs so I went through the manual process using the third party EQ curve website whose name I am blanking on. I had to extensively tweak the output curve to be tolerable, and after the utter nightmare that is manually entering the values, where if you go to long without pushing "done" on the keyboard it will erase the last few entries you painstakingly entered by hand. After all that I just run my IEMs stock and hate this device for how broad its design and implementation failures are.
The battery life for me is about 4 hours, I don't listen very loud and I am using single driver IEMs. The device has an awesome oversight/ footgun baked in where if you plug it into the wrong thing to charge it will damage your device - nice!
The thing that brought me here to write this review is the bluetooth behavior. Bluetooth is already a dumpsterfire and this device is like a monkeywrench in your devices' bluetooth management scheme. It has two devices - one for management and one for listening. This causes my windows machine, iOS devices and mac so much confusion and often I find myself having to manually disconnect from it because I left it on or plugged it in and it just turned itself on and reconnected.
I truly hate it and wish I had never bought it.
It's very convenient to pair with my phone over BT when I am on the go. It is also very easy to connect to my desktop when I am in front of my monitor. The sound delivered from this little piece is amazing and the PEQ is a big plus for me -- an Apple product user which is infamous of lacking system level PEQ compatibility. It's my daily carry now.
BTW, make sure set USB as higher priority when enjoying the music on computer.
