This watch is approximately 1/16th the price of a Rolex gmt. $9700 isn’t a lot of money when it comes down to it. For example, if you avoided wasting your money on poor quality watches at $400-$600, once a month, then in less than a year and a half you can have a quality timepiece that will last your lifetime, be serviceable, and at the very least retain 80%+ of your initial purchase price.
For everyone who cries out against the ‘snobs’ like me, recognize that I was once one of you. I fooled myself into thinking watches like this were ‘just as good’ as the real thing. I come here not to harm, but to help you all become better versions of yourself with better watches. I am, in short, the Drop Watch Jesus.
Stop buying low low quality cheap watches. You’ll thank me eventually. You’re welcome.

But this is not a low quality watch; and like a lot of people I do find Rolex,tag and some others to be what I call "brand snob buys". There are easily many watches at half their asking prices which are just as good quality. And even cheaper; Mido, Alpina, Raymond Weil, Oris etc. And well if you do get bored and want to sell it you will mitigate your loss.
But depending on how much money you have it does make sense to buy the absolute best you can afford and try to plan on keeping it a long time, because as you have hinted at the service costs can be astronomical; of course depending on where you live, and local competition. But be ready for service assault!!
My local watch-maker; who is admittedly very expensive because he can be - not a lot of local competition. He charges a minimum of $300 usd to service any automatic(even $100 Ingersolls!), ETA 7750 style movement start at $700 usd minimum, and that's before any issues that are found, he showed me a auto chrono Maurice Lacroix he was working on and the bill was up to $1250 usd and still waiting for parts!!
So with that in mind for me and I don't doubt some others, a watch like this RT gmt diver and others become sensible buys.

WatchyoutalkingaboutRolex is currently a 💩 I'll never ever join any wait-list or tolerate my warranty card to be held for a year.
If you're going to suggest going high end, there are way better options like JLC, AP, A. Lange & Söhne, Glashütte Original...

WatchyoutalkingaboutGreat plan if you want one watch to wear. I enjoy changing up. If I did go high end I’d get something other than a Rolex anyway.

MarPablNo wait list my friend, nor did they hold my warranty card. I also got 12 months financing at 0% interest which was great as I didn’t anticipate getting my 3rd Rolex so soon. Only drawback to having a Traveler’s GMT vs a caller gmt is no quick set date. Agree on AP & Lange, and also Patek. JLC & GO are better as pre-owned buys to me.

MarPablI’m in the US so I went to Tourneau. I had gone into the shop about 2 weeks ago, gave the lady a list (chocolate gmt, New Kermit, any GMT) and she texted me yesterday she had it. Picked it up today. Very easy, very pleasant and the 12 month financing just made it a no brainer. Now I’m just waiting on the Kermit.
