There's a lot to love.

First -- yup, it's really small. Like, jewelry small. It's one thing to read the stats and another thing to hold something in your hand. When you're reading, you're comparing against inches or centimeters. When you're holding it, you're comparing it against your grip and that's when it gets real. And the truth is, my little finger is half again as long as this knife. I knew it would be little, but flipping it open with the hole feature on the blade really isn't going to be practical. I might be able to fit my pinky in there if i try. Thankfully, I don't have to. The flipper works like a champ. Blade goes snikt. Proper.

Pretty, isn't it? I'm not the world's biggest fan of damascus but this is Damasteel. It's gorgeous, it's high quality compared to most damascus on the market, and when testing the edge of the blade, the phrase that came to mind was 'sharp as fuck'. Ordinarily when a knife flips open this well I just leave the action well enough alone. Whoever put it together clearly knew what they were doing, don't mess with it, right? But, like, this isn't going to be one of my everyday knives. And I have a sneaking suspicion that the inside of this will be pretty simple. And I'm curious. So....

Yup. Caged bearings in milled pockets.

Two bolts and a pivot. Lockbar insert. Two standoffs. That's it! Simple, elegant. The Kydex neck sheath, while decent, isn't anything more than that. The chain looked a little more elegant in the pics. But it too isn't bad. I'll put it like this -- neither it nor the chain threaten to take your gaze away from the knife. That's probably not an accident. The Hummingbird gets a thumbs up for me. It is probably not for you if you have no use for a small knife reasonably well made out of expensive materials. It's almost -- almost -- too small for me. But not quite, because the ergonomics are there. This is not the knife I would reach for in most situations but its quality is good enough that if pressed into emergency service I have few doubts it would suffice. And believe me, it's as sharp as a scalpel. It's a five star knife.

Yeah, I found out a few things too. It's like this: if it ISN'T Damasteel, whatever it is, I'd buy it again.

reswrightReading up more on Damasteel, officially designated DS93x, it turns out that the two layers are PM steel -- RWL-34 and PMC27. Most of the time even decent Damascus is such where you have one good steel (a cobalt steel like VG-10, or something like 154CM) and one crap steel (something like 420J2 or SUS410-- highly stainless but lousy at holding an edge). Damasteel is an upgrade in both dimensions. RWL-34 is impossible to tell from 154CM or CPM154 or ATS-34 on a spectroscope, but it's got a much smaller grain size and finer distribution of alloy ingredients than any of those, which makes it sharper, tougher, more resistant to wear along the edge, and apparently lets it take one hell of a shine to boot. To me, it represents the pinnacle of what you can do with that basic formulation, and while I wouldn't class it as the same as, say, M390 or Elmax, it's definitely a premium steel. PMC27, the junior partner component of DS93x, isn't even made on its own, Damasteel only makes it to make DS93x. The formula of PMC27 is accounted as being very similar to 13C Sandvik, which most people would take over 420 anything in a heartbeat. Apparently the Swedes have come up with a way of layering the powdered steels and then fusing them. That's just cool.

Overall i would give this beautiful knife a 5/5
I wish they had some instructions for use and care. Also, the knife is not easy to close. The leather case is handy, but I dont understand the use of the half case with the two eyelet rivets. Obviously, the knife fits half way in it, but if worn on the chain, one could easily lose the half case. The small ring fits in the eyelet of the knife and allows the chain to carry the knife. I see that the chain can fit awkwardly in the two eyelets of of the half case, but worn with the knife in that case, you could easily lose the knife. Would like a cleaning and wearing suggestion info piece.

Amazing quality. Very tiny. Can’t wait to open letters
Outstanding quality. The tiny caged bearings are, dare I say, cute. This knife is smaller than you think by the specs. I’d love a knife at 2.25x in almost every dimension and twice the price please. The ergonomics make it ridiculously easy to use despite its size. This will NOT be your only knife. Hard to sharpen if you have fumble fingers. The included keyring is welcome. Action is smooth and everything is polished OOB. I’m including photos and a video of the action if they let me

My wife loves this knife
It was face shaving sharp out of the box. Carried In the included leather sheath and on the neck chain, it's perfect for every day tasks. It is very tiny, think ad victornox. This drop allowed us to buy two for one 😀

Fun "Dress" Knife
Let me just start of by saying that I bought this knife to pair with a suit. Splitting this review into 2 parts: as knife jewelry and as a knife. LTDR: awesome as knife jewelry, not practical as a knife. This is a great little knife to pair with any 'classy' clothes or in a situation where bringing a normal knife would be strange. It is tiny enough that it gets flagged as cute, and it has the lines and colors that dont intimidate anyone. The damascus is pretty neat (although it was not etched on the spine) and the milling and hardware on this is exceptional. Basically every angle had something new to discover, and the color transition and contrast was a bit mesmerizing. As a knife.... well, it fits the role of a spyderco bug. As a flipper, this is a fail. Although the action is smooth, the flipper tab is extremely small, the detent is strong, and coupled with a small and smooth finish it is really difficult to actuate. I always use 2 hands to open this because using the flipper makes it feel like it'll fly out of my hands (please note i have skinny fingers. large/fat fingered people, avoid this knife unless you treat it like jewelry) Holding it in hand is ok, but the most comfortable grip is probably holding it like a pencil - middle finger on the choil, thumb on the side, pointer finger on the spine. And the pocket clip is for really thin fabrics. As for cutting, the blade is ground pretty thin, so its a decent cutter, but its intended to tackle small things like stray fabrics or tape. But since you have to grip it so tightly, it performs quite well in small tasks. If you are looking for a fancy spyderco bug, then this is your knife. Will only buy again if I get another suit of a different color, or as a present.

Tiny, tiny, tiny!
Even though the measurements of this knife were listed in the description you do not realize just how tiny the knife really is until you try to hold it. Knowing this, I plan to use my newly acquired knowledge to prevent me from doing this again. Remember, just don’t get lost in the looks of an item, pay attention to the details.

So very small
Surprised by how small this knife is. I take responsibility for not paying close enough attention to the details on this one, but I was more focused on design and color. Lesson learned. Too small for me to use and carry. Will probably give to my wife or daughter. Definitely not worth the money paid.

It's a tiny knife. It's very pretty, and looks like decent Damascus, but I did not realize how small a 1.5 inch knife was. My girlfriend loves it, and that's all that matters, but I was worried for a minute. Because of the size, it's not the easiest to open/close without using both hands and/or worrying about dropping it or cutting yourself. Because of the weight, however, it stays in the necklace sheath very reliably. All in all, I wish there was a picture showing relative size, but it does what it sets out to do.

Very cool little knife.
I know it's other reviews, but this thing really is tiny. Obviously not for tough work, but very sharp out of the box and just a sharp in appearance. If you are a collector, this is good one to have.

Very Nice
Good build quality. Detent is a bit stiff for opening, but all g. Knife is tiny, so know that before purchasing. Overall I love this little beauty. Extremely sharp and has held its edge well thus far.
