This is disappointing... Massdrop really needs to start looking at other web prices before they do a drop. $102.81 isn't a deal at all on this knife. Factor in the extra half a month of wait for the drop shipping / shipment dividing and you're just getting ripped off. I love the massdrop business model, but explain why we should pay the same price or higher as elsewhere and then have to wait an extra 3 weeks? I voted for this knife to come back. I wasn't willing to buy it at the standard web price before so I was hoping the drop price would be competitive. Really confused at what the point of massdrop is when there are prices this high... You can buy this exact S110V model right now for $99 free shipping no tax elsewhere. People come to massdrop for a community deal. Not the illusion of a "deal" like a normal retail store would attempt.

guvnorExactly my point. I am unwilling to based on the going price. The point of a group buy is to get it for less than you can get it elsewhere online. I've gotten decent deals on a number of massdrop buys before (including other spyderco knives), but the reason we all come here is to get a deal. And to get that deal we are often willing to wait longer than usual to receive it in the mail. This is an example of Massdrop potentially losing their touch. If they keep going this route they will lose their dedicated userbase eventually. The people who shop here are 90% savvy internet shoppers and they will be able to see through shabby "deals" like these. The real question is, why are you on this website in the first place?

IJustDroppedThatAhh. Makes sense. So Massdrop tailors their prices just barely low enough to sell out but not low enough that it is a good deal. Sounds like the business model of a traditional retail store to me. Except they are essentially tailoring their prices and shipping costs for international buyers which prioritizes them over the interested US buyers.

spiffycheeAgreed for the most part. I don't find any drops to be exceptional deals. THey are just under or at internet pricing for most items. Advantage is availability for some items which are in high demand and command MSRP prices unless you are trolling many websites all the time. So, when I get email, I check drop, if it is reasonable price or better than I would find elsewhere I will buy it for convenience. That being said, I believe they could get better prices with larger quantities and don't care for the 3 weeks wait.

spiffycheeYou reminded me of a line from a Louis C.K. joke - "How quickly the world owes him something he knew existed only 10 seconds ago."
Why am I here? Let's see, I've participated in more drops than you, have more comments in discussions than you, and about 46 times the amount of endorsements from those comments than you. I've also owned this knife before and can offer some feedback and opinions for others who might be interested. So I guess I'd have to say I'm here to contribute more than you.

guvnor@guvnor, Totally great how involved you are as a user. The site depends on people like you to survive and expand so congrats for helping them get there. However, the site also depends on itself offering great deals. If you are dedicated enough to massdrop to just buy from them regardless of the value in their deals then kudos to you. I'm not that loyal to any web store to buy from them if the deal sucks and the shipping is slow. It takes less than 1 minute to find a better deal online than many of these massdrop deals lately. Massdrop has recently received $40 million+ from VC investors. If they want to scale up without making their deals as good or better than before then shame on them... Their investors may be squeezing them to have higher margins. Regarding my lack of comments on this website... many of these brands (like spyderco) have fantastic dedicated forums that are much more useful than any discussion on Massdrop could be. I'll spend my time there if I have interest in learning and contributing about a brand/product. Your experience with the community part of this website is irrelevant to my argument that this deal sucks anyways... I've known about massdrop since their start but it wasn't until recently that I started buying from them. I'm not going to stay with them long though if they continue to offer many sub-par deals. It wastes my time to vote on things I want and then get emailed about a deal and then come to the site and find out the deal sucks anyways. Lots of time and anticipation for nothing. Why wait for a bad deal? Makes no sense. I'm done commenting on here as I have made my point known. Hopefully their moderators are reading this.
