29 dollars for 3 keys? I could buy a whole keyboard for that price, why does everything have to be so expensive nowadays. And besides that, the shipping will also be 15 dollars. 44 dollars for 3 keys, what the heck.
Whatever keyboard you bought for $29, should not be bragged about amongst this crowd. Especially when some of us spend $65 on a single LOTR keycap.
no regerts
TrizzOnly $65 that's a good deal compared to some of the GothCaps, Dreadkeys, and many of the other Artisans I've dished out for (and don't regret a single one of them).
I would be highly skeptical of any customizable, mechanical keyboard that sold for less than $30, even a "three key" one.
You are looking at a Ferrari and complaining, "it is too expensive when all you need is four wheels and a seat."
$29 for a Macro Pad is actually a good deal, those 3 keys have the ability to have the functions of many - also there are multiple layers to access if you program it correctly. I use it for in-game macros and another layer for Excel for work. If you're complaining about the price, then this product isn't aimed at you.
Oh boy!!! Should I tell him him guys? About the custom keyboards, keysets, keyboard tools like lube and springs or.... should I really really hold off on telling him all about artisan keys?
@sezbulent once you start looking for a custom keyboard, you are entering in to a hobby space where pockets have no bottom, desires are never truly fulfilled and end game is code word for current favorite. What I’m getting at is this hobby is where computing was in the late 90’s where you buy the latest and greatest current tech and three weeks later a new version came out. People got burnt out on trying to stay on top of it all but financially couldn’t. Now with eBay, Craigslist and other market places, it’s easier to keep cycling up.
in the keeb community the number one rule is making friends. I mean seriously, we are all here because we share a passion for or desire to learn more about the hobby. as time goes on, your collection will grow. You may find you have more artisans than you know what to do with or that someone has a colorway of an artisan you’ve wanted. That’s where you trade and become lifelong Bff’s for life.
unfortunately with the, I’m gonna say it, unprecedented times that were the two years of Wuhan flu, many people joined the keeb hobby not to be good members, but to scalp keys. It’s sad, but people didn’t use to sell keys at inflated prices. They would trade and make friends because that’s how you would ultimately grow your collection and share your love of the hobby with everyone else.
artisans were commonly $35 to $65 with a handful of outliers that were $75 but their prices still go the same 6 years later. Many now start at $85 and go up to $150 ish. That’s from the artisan maker. And now people try to get $300 a key. It’s like, you can think people will pay that, but you ain’t going to see a dime trying to scalp people like that.
Anyways, the point of all this is to say, drop is not the same company they once were. I have nothing against them today, but under mass drop, it was special and different and yeah they had issues and yeah it could be frustrating, but it was fun and you got really cool shit then that was exclusive. This new business model feels like a stingy old frugal grandma compared to the old wheelin and dealin mass drop of old.
a $29 keyboard is going to be the equivalent of a pack in free keyboard that your child gets with a school computer or maybe a red dragon board. My personal boards cost as much as many Americans daily drive vehicle. To say I did t fall down the hole would be a gross understatement.
For the real answer, cost of producing a product doesn't scale the same as raw material cost. Machining a 3-key macropad and a similar quality full size keyboard isn't that big of a difference. But yeah, Drop shipping is pretty bad compared to smaller companies.
Noticing in some of the pictures that the USB cable is being propped up, so will the base be heavy enough so that the weight of the cable won't cause the macropad to pivot up or flop around in general?
I have one of the first run versions and replaced the cable with a glorious ascended cable because I did find that the included cable would lift that version keyboard depending on desk placement. The softer stringy cable gives me more flexibility though, so I likely would have replaced the included cable anyway. Additionally, I replaced the included small dot stick on feet with two large thicker black stick-on pads to give the keyboard more height, but that is a personal thing. I have been using it for screen shot/quick save/quick load since I received it. I have also ordered one of these new ones with the plan to replace the included cable with a soft cable and set it up with some specific keys for online games.
