Is there a reason this doesn't list the word "balanced" anywhere or come up when searching for a balanced amp? It clearly looks like it has a balanced output in the photo. I was shopping for an amp with a balanced output yesterday and might have gone for this one if I knew about it. I am matching it with a Topping DAC so this would have made more sense than the SMSL I ended up ordering because it was the only one I could find in my price range.

This is not listed as a balanced amp because it is not a balanced amp: the 4-pin XLR output is only for convenience and is connected to the exact same circuitry as the 6.35mm output. See the attached picture from Topping's website.

Can I run in unbalanced mode before I get a balanced cable? Also which ports are the balanced ones?

This is not a balanced amplifier so it will make no difference. As you can see from the attached image from Topping's website, even though it accepts a balanced input signal and can output through a 4-pin XLR it is internally a single-ended amplifier only.

Will this deliver enough current to drive Hifiman HE-6 headphones?
