I don't know why we have to have the same complaining almost every time this happens. It's simple, on custom collaborations MD can pre set the price with whomever they are partnering with. With standard manufactured drops, they are bound by the company's MAP requirements just the same as any distributor would be.
This will ALWAYS happen when MAPs are a requirement.
halflife78Because:
A) there are ways around MAP pricing that have been discussed at length in other stops. Retailers do it (legally) all the time, MD chooses not to
B) it defeats the whole purpose of group discounts that this site is supposed to be about. They would come off looking better overall if they just skipped any drops where they couldn't successfully negotiate a better price. Posting up at retail, or worse at higher prices than other sites are able to offer, make them look weak and unable to fulfill their company mission
KavikAs long as people keep giving MD their money for non-discounted listings, MD is going to do the logical thing and continue to do what is best for the profits of the company.
KavikThe only way around MAP pricing is find a local retailer that will sell it to you in person at whatever cost they want. Internet pricing is bound by MAP unless a product reaches discontinuation status or the vendor allows the sale.
I get my BM at 30% and WE at roughly 20% off from a local dealer.
And this price isn't worse, it's MAP with a higher shipping point.
KavikIf they really do have such cheap int'l shipping like some say though, they might just be offering some people in other places a great deal, and the practice may never stop. But at least its helping some people, just maybe not everyone. Its nice knowing this in case perhaps someone decides to move out of country.
halflife78And as a side note, I have 0 plans to buy this because I can get it cheaper locally, but the complaints about retail produced knives with MAP restrictions being brought up all the time gets old. They can't sell it below MAP or they risk losing their status as a seller of WE's product.
halflife78Minimum advertised pricing (MAP) is the lowest price a retailer can advertise the product for sale. As long as you don’t advertise below MAP, you can sell a knife for whatever price you want. I guess Massdrop can’t get around it because they would be advertising below MAP. They would have to advertise at MAP, then email us all on the side with a lower price, which I am totally up for! : )
