Can the volume knob on this unit control the volume of the line level signal when connecting powered monitors that don’t have a volume control? Or is the volume knob only active for the headphone output?

Not directly, unless your PC has RCA out. But if you have a DAC with USB in and RCA out, or a USB to RCA adapter then you can connect with either of those.

Trash_PandaA 3.5 mm splitter won’t suffice? Motherboard AUX out to RCA L, R input on the xDuoo?

I am trying to help everyone else out there cause indeed buying this preamp with little info was moreless like a gamble. Unfortunately there's not much info from XDUOO but the preamp is worth it, specially if it is discounted (got it for 80 bucks)
