This is just my backup for larger dinners, for most of the time I use the NP-GBC05 3-cup rice cooker. But this one is the top of the line for a reason, and it is just what I need for preparing dinner for larger parties.
After some 20 years, my Zojirushi 10 cup unit bowl was scratched pretty badly and no more replacements were for sale. So, time for a new one. This is top of the line, with all the bells and whistles, but somehow missing the basmati rice setting (apparently the machine just sits for half an hour before cooking with this setting on their other machines). Well, it makes rice. Does a really good job. Hope it lasts 20 years too. So why only 4 stars? Well, it's expensive. It's a 3 stage pressure cooker as well, not that that seems to make much difference in the time it takes to cook rice, or in how it comes out. I now have 5 pieces, including an o-ring, which it says to clean after each use. My 20 year old unit had 1, and I'm not including the bowl. Also, this unit is induction cooking, which I guess it means it has to have a fan going the entire time it's cooking. It sounds like a gaming laptop on high. My old unit was silent. So bottom line? Maybe the lower models are the better deal.
Without a doubt my most prized kitchen appliance. I am a frequent enjoyer of rice, never thought a rice cooker would so drastically improve the taste/texture vs using a pressure cooker or stove top. It was shocking how incredibly fluffy and perfectly prepared the rice comes out. I've tried GABA brown, sweet white, sushi, jasmine - all flawless every single time. Highly recommend, worth the investment.
