Returning to Vynil Audio

more_vert
Due to my age I lived through the Vinyl age. I have also gone through all of the others. I am moving to return to Vynil and will be buying a turntable from DROP. I need to understand the AMP and speakers (the complete setup that will provide me with a great listening experience. Any suggestions on Devices/connections and speakers that I would need.?

I got the Drop + Audio Technica Carbon VTA. I’m using it with headphones, so really all I need is just a headphone amp, so I can control volume. I also have a pair of Logitech computer active speakers (“active” or “powered“ means the speaker has a speaker amp built-in, but you still need to control the volume externally) right now, and I’m getting DROP‘s BMR1 when that’s released. For the DROP nearfield speakers (meaning they’re small, meant to be placed close to the listener), I could use the headphone amp to control volume. Essentially, I just have the Carbon VTA Turntable, the headphone amp, and headphones /active speakers. I only need the three components because the Carbon VTA has a built-in Phono amp. The Carbon VTA comes with an RCA cable, which also has a grounding spade in case you have the hum of a ground loop, but some people don’t need that. If I wanted to be a bit fancier… I do own a PS Audio Sprout II, which is an all-in-one unit: the Sprout has its own grounding pin, a phono amp, a headphone/preamp, a speaker power amp with banana plug sockets, USB input in case I want to stream some PC audio, and Bluetooth input. PS Audio doesn’t make the Sprout cheap… but I mention it just to show that you can keep things simple and affordable with the Carbon VTA’s built-in phono amp, or you can personalize and optimize by using an external phono amp and everything else. Does this answer your question, and give you a good idea what a setup looks like?
