I've been listening to the Cayin iDac MK2 for a few weeks via USB...and it sounded fine...a little analytical and maybe a touch bright, but a nice resolving crisp sound. I enjoyed the tubes on a lot of recordings bringing a bit of warmth and texture. The USB input was nothing to write home about. Today I decided to try the I2S input with an old CI Audio Transient MKII USB converter with a linear PS I had laying around and let me say...WOW. This little DAC really opened up. It sounds far less bright and more airy but with the same resolution and bite. The Transient will only output up to 192kH so in the next few days I'll be moving some components around and giving the Cayin a permanent I2S home with the DI-20. Surprisingly satisfied.
