Before launching any product, there are many designs, concepts, and ideas that pass between teams before arriving at a final design which makes its way to your computer screen and, eventually, desk. This is no more true than when considering possibly the most "art"-forward aspect of the mechanical keyboard hobby—artisan keycaps. It should be obvious that a lot of planning and artistry goes into crafting these literal pieces of art. We don't often get a chance to see behind the curtain, though. So, let's take a closer look at the upcoming Drop + Dwarf Factory Lord of the Rings Rohan Artisan Keycaps.
Before any resin is spilled, Middle Earth (the entity that licenses the Lord of the Rings IP) needs to approve the concepts based on concept art provided by Dwarf Factory. We connect with DF to coordinate on the topic and subject matter—in this particular case, additional Rohan-themed designs—to be sure that the concepts match with overall direction, whether that be pairing up with a keycap set, keyboard, or other theming.
Based on those initial ideas, Dwarf Factory generates artwork much like what is shown below. This is the approved concept artwork that the keycaps will be based on.

In addition to the finished concepts above, there are additional "supporting works" that break down the elements incorporated into the designs. These show how any relevant inspirations and lore are worked into the concepts and eventual artisan keycaps, as well as key features and functionalities of the caps.

From there, it's all up to the magic of Dwarf Factory and their amazing skills to turn concept into reality. Be sure to stop back tomorrow when these fantastical artisans launch!
What Lord of the Rings themed artisans would you like to see next?
Working on LOTR projects is always an exciting and fun journey. All the kind words from you guys give us a huge motivation for any upcoming project. Thanks Drop for the collab opportunity. Can't wait to see next ones.
They're freaking gorgeous. I hope you guys bring them back again so I can get them!!! Ideas for future keycaps: any of the major jewels (the arkenstone, silmarils). The evenstar. An elvish cloak pin. Aragorn's sword, Legolas' bow, and Gimli's axe. Aragorn's crown as king. Aragorn's pipe with slightly transparent inside the pipe, so you could light the switch behind it in red to make it look like the pipe is lit like in the movie. A hobbit themed set with hobbit font keycaps, with artisans like a hobbit hole door, fresh baked bread, a garden, a butterfly, a pint of ale, wheat, or a some mushrooms/flowers/pumpkins/apples. Gondor: the white tree of gondor, a tiny minas tirith, Spacebars: the three wizards' staffs. The Hobbit: treasure/gold coins, the Lonely Mountain, dwarvish weapons or armor
Please make a lord of the rings gaming mouse 🙏🔥 I own every Mordor/ Sauron piece but I have this ugly Corsair mouse beside it all 😔
other then that I am so happy with all of the items I’ve bought so far thank you!
I wish the price at checkout for all my items "LOTR" I intended to buy was the barely over 200$ price it was. I add 1 gameboy key cap then my coupon vanishes asking for like 150 more dollars.
An if I remove the Gameboy key cap my coupon doesn't work anymore.inatead of 200 somthing now its 300 somthing.I emailed. The response didn't really care.
Such a shame8'-[
