UL_Product_ManagerCould you give us a rough estimate on how long we would have to wait for a DCF version please?

Sahara45We are sewing around on the final prototype, it will be a bit different compared to the regular tent as DCF requires a totally different manufacturing process its not as easy as just swapping materials so we still have some R&D work to do to make everything work and as durable and light as possible. I am probably saying too much here, sorry marketing department, but we are aiming for a launch late 3rd or early 4th quarter of 2019

UL_Product_ManagerBetter bonded than sewn if that is how you are constructing it. I personally wouldn't buy a stitched DCF shelter due to excess pull on the stitch holes pulling them wider over time, others might though.

UL_Product_ManagerI'm making a decision between this tent and the BA Tiger Wall Platinum for my AT thru when the next REI coupon comes out so I hope it's the earlier date!

PadstoweYou are correct, the material can not be sewn. it would just tear apart like perforated toilet paper along the seam because it is so thin. It's all bonded but even thats tricky as barely anything really wants to stick to it.

infinitymdmDyneema Composite Fabrics - it is another material to make backpacking gear from. Extremely light and strong. It used to be known as cuben fiber. https://www.hyperlitemountaingear.com/blogs/ultralight/cuben-fiber-renamed-price-changes-dyneema-fabrics

UL_Product_ManagerHey Michael, am I right in assuming, since this is the 2P discussion, that this includes a DCF 2P of some sort? This would be music to my ears... a DCF 2P X-Mid shelter would give us a 2 person / 1.5+ volume living space at, I guess, around the ridiculously low weight of a standard Poly 1P! With Dan's innovative design, storm worthiness (important in the UK and northern EU), the amazingly simple pitch and competitive pricing why would you bother with a ZPacks Duplex? It seems to be the most popular out there, despite the price, and many people opt to use it as a solo shelter over the Plexamid. I would imagine The X-Mid design improvements applied to the Duplex size and weight class would sell like hotcakes. This seems like the holy grail to me.. I, and many others, would opt to carry this hiking *solo* over even a 1P DCF X-Mid shelter. When the weather gets really bad for extended periods you want to be able to feel comfortable moving around a bit, cooking etc == 2P space. A DCF version would bring the weight down to a more than acceptable UL level to carry alone. That's why so many people recommend the MLD Duomid XL over the Duomid/Solomid in the DCF variants, for example. You get a much more practically sized living space for one, you can bring along your SO, a mate or furry friend and it's still plenty light and much more versatile! I'd love to hear your thoughts on this, cheers!
